Fantasy Studs & Duds Week 11

All rankings based on 9 categories (pts/reb/ast/stl/blk/3/fg%/ft%/to) and head-to-head format.

STUDS

Point Guards

  • Jose Calderon, TOR, 3 games: Jose was the 12th best player in fantasy basketball with a line of 14.7 points, 11.7 dimes, 1.3 threes, and 1.3 steals on 63% shooting.  In typical Calderon fashion, he made all six freethrows he took and only turned the ball over twice a game.
  • Raymond Felton, NYK, 3 games: Raymond just keeps on keeping on.  He’s loving the style of play in New York, the uptempo system has really brought the best out of him.  He finished up right behind Jose at #13 in the rankings with a line of 21/6.7/8.3.  He knocked down three triples a night, made all his freethrows, and got you a few steals as well.
  • Rajon Rondo, BOS, 4 games: Ten points on 46% shooting is kinda weak, but 5.8 boards, 13.3 assists and 3.5 steals a game is nice.  He didn’t completely ruin you in TOs, either.  He averaged 3.5 a game, but with 13.3 dimes that’s pretty reasonable.  His poor freethrowing didn’t cost you either, as he only shot four FTs all week.

Shooting Guards

  • Joe Johnson, ATL, 3 games: JJ has struggled with his shot after undergoing elbow surgery, but it looks like he may be coming around.  Johnson did 27 PPG on damn near 60% shooting with three triples a game, so his jumper was certainly on point.  The rest of his line could’ve been better–the boards and assists were a little low–but he was still good enough for the 7th spot in the rankings.
  • Landry Fields, NYK, 3 games: The league’s leading rebounder at the guard position did not disappoint.  Landry averaged eight boards a game, and threw in plenty of other goodies as well.  Two steals, 13 points, 61.5% shooting, flawless freethrowing… excellent stuff from Spike Lee’s new favorite player.
  • Manny Harris, CLE, 3 games: If you don’t know who Manny Harris is, don’t worry, I didn’t either until a few weeks ago.  He’s Cleveland’s rookie shooting guard who has taken over the starting spot in place of Boobie Gibson, who’s out with an injury.  Manny put up 14/6 on great percentages with almost two threes and over a steal a game.  Give him a try if you’ve got a streamer spot, he could give you a boost in points and threes.

Small Forwards

  • LeBron James, MIA, 4 games: LBJ was the best small forward and third best player overall with a line of 33.3 points, 9.5 boards, and 6.3 assists on 50+/80+ percentages.  He also gave you nine total steals and over a three a game.  He accounted for 16 turnovers, but he probably won you a couple other categories, so who cares?
  • Rudy Gay, MEM, 3 games: Rudy was the 10th best player in fantasy basketball with a line of 25/6/4 on 58%/78%.  Oh yeah, the guy’s a steal machine all of a sudden.  If I remember correctly, he did like four a game in week 10… he kept it rolling with 2.7 last week.
  • Wilson Chandler, NYK, 3 games: So far, New York’s had a player repping each position.  Ill Will did 22/6 on 54% with a 1+ in both the steals and blocks categories.  The threes were a little slack on his standards, just four of them on the week, but that’s still a small contribution.

Power Forwards

  • Kevin Love, MIN, 4 games: Kevin did what Kevin does… 23.8 points, 18.8 boards, and 1.8 threes on 54% shooting and 87% freethrowing.  Typical week, I don’t feel the need to elaborate.
  • Pau Gasol, LAL, 4 games: Pau really filled up the sheet in week 11.  The seven-cat beast gave you 17/11/5 with two steals and 1.8 blocks on 50% shooting and 87% from the stripe… good enough for the #5 spot in the rankings.
  • Zach Randolph, MEM, 3 games: Z-Bo was a monster with averages of 28 points and over 14 boards.  He shot 56% on almost 20 shots a game, and even threw in a little D with over a steal a game.  One of these years I’m going to draft Randolph and not trade him away like a moron.  I did that three seasons ago… haven’t been able to get my hands on him since.

Centers

  • DeAndre Jordan, LAC, 2 games: He only played two games, but 33 boards and nine blocks are still excellent contributions.  He bricked a lot of freethrows, but other than that he was great.  He shot 66.7% from the floor and even pitched in 11.5 PPG.
  • Andrea Bargnani, TOR, 4 games: Just under seven boards a game for Bargs?  Someone check Hell, make sure it’s still hot.  He scored his 23.8 points, of course, and knocked down his 1.5 threes.  He had a great shooting week, 50% FG and 89.5% FT.
  • LaMarcus Aldridge, POR, 4 games: I couldn’t fit him in at PF, and I had to squeeze the dude in somewhere, he’s been a monster lately.  LaMarcus scored 28.5 points and collected 11.8 boards as he continues to step his game up weekly.  He’s been criticized for being a little soft in the past, but not this season: he’s third in the league in dunks.  Dude’s goin’ hard in the paint.

DUDS

Point Guards

  • Chris Paul, NOH, 4 games: Under a steal a game for Chris Paul?  WTF?  His assists were a little down too, just 8.5 per… I suppose 17.8 points is ok, and 1.5 threes is decent… but this guy is a top three pick, owners are looking for production in more than two categories.
  • Jason Kidd, DAL, 3 games: The guy shot 18.5 percent from the floor.  I repeat, 18.5 percent… on nine shots a game.  It would be one thing if he took like five shots all week, but he took 27, and bricked 22 of them.  That’ll kill the FG%.
  • Gilbert Arenas, ORL, 4 games: Gilbo shot a lot better than J-Kidd, but he wasn’t very good himself.  He went 37.5 percent from the floor while scoring under 10 PPG.  He played just 21 minutes a game, limiting his effectiveness.

Shooting Guards

  • Oj Mayo, MEM, 2 games: Normally I don’t put players on here when they missed a game, but I honestly believe OJ’s DNP was due to stupidity (bronchitis my ass), so I’ll make an exception.  In the two games he did play, Mayo scored just 12 PPG on 37.9% from the field.  He racked up a few steals, but that’s about it.
  • JR Smith, DEN, 4 games: JR Smith chucked enough bricks to build himself a new mansion.  The guy shot 24% from the floor and made just one three all week.  He was unable to contribute in any categories.
  • Ben Gordon, DET, 3 games: Same old sh!t, not enough minutes to go around in Detroit.  Gordon played just 23 MPG, averaging 8.7 points on 36% shooting.  If Richard Hamilton gets traded, watch Gordon’s minutes, he could improve.

Small Forwards

  • Ron Artest, LAL, 4 games: Normally I try to find players who haven’t sucked all season long, but apparently it was a strong week for SFs.  Ron did 9/4/3 on 37% FG with a three a game, which is actually an above average week for him.  Yes, he really is that bad.
  • Richard Jefferson, SAS, 4 games: RJ got off to a good start, but he’s fallen off lately.  Jefferson had another quiet week with averages of 11/3/2.  It’s probably time to consider dropping him if there’s someone you like on the waiver wire.
  • Danny Granger, IND, 2 games: 15/4/2 with a couple threes is something you’d be looking for from a free agent pickup, not your first round draft pick.  It’s far from the worst line on the duds list, but he may be the underachiever of the week.

Power Forwards

  • David Lee, GSW, 3 games: David hasn’t been the same since Wilson Chandler’s tooth ended up inside of his elbow.  He played under 30 MPG last week and put up just 14/6 with very little else to speak of.
  • Andray Blatche, WAS, 3 games: A block and a steal is cool, but 14/7 on 38% is kinda lame.  Blatche’s numbers have been down a bit since the arrival of Rashard Lewis, which is not surprising.  Try selling him on his season numbers to one of the less informed members of your league.
  • Charlie Villanueva, DET, 3 games: Sir Charles is riding the limited minutes train with his boy Ben Gordon.  Charlie played 22 MPG, which was just enough for him to notch seven points a game.  Woohoo!

Centers

  • Brook Lopez, NJN, 3 games: This f@cking guy… I swear, I’ve run out of ways to insult him.  The man averaged TWO POINT SEVEN rebounds a game last week.  TWO POINT SEVEN!  At seven feet tall, how is that even possible?  No wonder Chauncey Billups has no interest in playing for the Nets… I wouldn’t want to play with this dude either.
  • Spencer Hawes, PHI, 3 games: Hawes was terrible in November, decent in December, and now he’s off to a terrible start in January.  Drop him for a month and add him back in Febuary?  Last week’s 6/3/2 say DO IT!
  • Roy Hibbert, IND, 2 games: Roy’s breakout season has been slowing down a bit lately.  He did average over 10 boards a game last week, but he shot just 32% and put up below average numbers in most categories.  Jeff Foster’s been taking some of Hibbert’s minutes over the past couple weeks, which has hurt his production.  I’m not exactly sure what Jim O’Brien’s thinking.
