Games To Watch, Week 12 (1/10-1/16)

Monday, January 10th: Grizzlies @ Bobcats, 7:00 ET, SS

There’s only three choices tonight, and yes, they really are this weak.  At least Paul Silas has encouraged the Bobcats to score, and the Grizzlies are an exciting, talented squad.  If you haven’t seen much of Rudy Gay, you truly are missing out.  If you’ve got nothing better to do tonight, take this opportunity to watch one of the league’s most spectacular young players do his thing.

Tuesday, January 11th: Knicks @ Blazers, 10:00 ET, MSG CSNW

Amare Stoudemire vs LaMarcus Aldridge has suddenly turned into a matchup of two of the league’s premier scorers at the power forward position.  Amare has been playing MVP-level ball this season, and since LaMarcus became a number one option he’s been dropping 25+ every night while leading the banged up Blazers to some pretty impressive wins.  The Knicks better not sleep on this Portland squad, they may be missing half the roster, but they bring it.

Wednesday, January 12th: Heat @ Clippers, 10:30 ET, SUN FSPT

LeBron and Blake Griffin?  Yes, please!  I’m really pumped for this game.  Obviously the Clippers are huge underdogs, but they’re 7-3 over the past 10… I suppose they have as good a chance at competing with the Heat as any of these other non-contender teams.  Even if it’s not much of a contest, Blake and LeBron should be worth a few hours of your time.

Thursday, January 13th: Magic @ Thunder, 8:00 ET, TNT

I would’ve chosen Miami @ Denver, but the Nuggets have played so poorly lately I’ve lost confidence in ‘em.  Instead, watch Dwight Howard beast on OKC’s undersized frontcourt.  Hopefully Orlando actually looks to get him heavily involved offensively rather than just chucking threes all night.  I’d watch the Magic a lot more if Dwight did his thing every night.  I’m not sure who’s fault it is, really…  Sometimes I feel like Dwight simply doesn’t have the fire necessary to go out there and want to dominate every night.  Sometimes I feel like he wants it, but the other guys would rather shoot jumpers.  His offensive game has improved, I’m confident that he can beast on most teams’ bigs.  I’ve gone off on a whole other topic here.  Moving right along…

Friday, January 14th: Clippers @ Warriors, 10:30 ET, FSPT CSBA

Yeah, I listed this exact machup last week, and one team didn’t even show up.  Did I still enjoy watching the game?  Hell yes.  Check today’s highlight recap, you’ll see why.  The Clippers are always a good decision.  Just don’t fall in love with them, because it likely won’t last long.  The unfortunate reality is that this is a poorly run organization that will likely screw everything up in the near future.

Saturday, January 15th: Heat @ Bulls, 8:00 ET, SUN WGN

A couple of MVP candidates will try to strengthen their cases for a trophy in this one.  If Derrick Rose could lead his Bulls to a win over the Heat, who could very well be on an 11-game win streak at this point, that would certainly bolster the young PG’s arguement.  I figure Dwyane Wade, not LeBron James, will be the guy for Miami in this one, though.  It’s in his hometown.  Just like LeBron dominated in Cleveland, I think Wade will have a big night in Chicago.

Sunday, January 16th: Lakers @ Clippers, 3:30 ET, KCAL FSPT

There’s only two games on the 16th of January, and like I said, I’m not picking the damn Nuggets.  I don’t think there’s anyone out there that’s going to be mad at me for including the Clipps three times anyway.  Does anyone not enjoy watching Blake Griffin?  Seriously, I haven’t heard one person ever say anything negative about the guy.  I’m sure as the years go on he’ll pick up a few haters here and there, but he’s simply a spectacular player and a likable guy.
