Fantasy Studs & Duds Week Ten

All rankings based on 9 categories (pts/reb/ast/stl/blk/3/fg%/ft%/to) and head-to-head format.

STUDS

Point Guards

  • Chris Paul, NOH, 4 games: Paul’s core stats don’t appear to be top ranked player on the week material… 18.8 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 10.5 assists… nice, but nothing crazy.  The crazy number was in the steals department.  Chris racked up 21 swipes in four games, enough to singlehandedly win you the category against a poor steals team.
  • Chauncey Billups, DEN, 3 games: Chauncey has really come around over the past couple weeks.  He did about 25/3/6 on 65% FG and 95% FT with over a steal and almost four threes a night.  That was good enough to make him the third best player in fantasy basketball for week ten.
  • DJ Augustin, CHA, 3 games: He dished about five assists per game, which is nothing special from your PG, but he filled it up from beyond the arc.  DJ was good for 3.3 triples a night on his way to just over 22 PPG on 61% FG.  He made all seven of his freethrows and only turned the ball over twice.

Shooting Guards

  • Fransisco Garcia, SAC 4 games: Garcia did just 12.8 points, 4.5 boards, and two assists, but he filled up the blocks and steals categories nicely with a 1.5 in each slot.  He also knocked down two threes per game.  That’s excellent overall production from a borderline waiver wire type guy.
  • Tony Allen, MEM, 4 games: Remember, everything’s relative.  Tony’s hardly seen the court all season.  He’s averaging under 14 MPG, but that number jumped to 25 last week, and he used the time to do what he does best.  Tony racked up 14 steals in four games, a number that would certainly make him worth a stream spot on your roster if you’re in need of some swipes.  He also threw in 8.5 points and 4.8 boards.  Watch his minutes… if they remain around the 20-25 mark, keep an eye on him as a cheap source of steals.
  • Dwyane Wade, MIA, 3 games: I almost forgot about Dwyane.  He averaged damn near 40 PPG (36.7) along with 7.3 boards on 53% shooting.  Unless you own Dwight Howard, he probably won you the FT% category with his 81% on 14 attempts a night.  Throw in a couple steals for good measure and you’ve got the 4th best line of the week.

Small Forwards

  • Dorell Wright, GSW, 4 games: My main man just keeps doing his thing.  He knocked down four and a half threes a game, scored 26.8 points, and tacked on 1.8 steals.  Number two player in fantasy basketball… nothing new, he’s been doing this all season long.
  • Paul Pierce, BOS, 4 games: The Celtics are struggling through some major injury problems, but The Truth is doing his best to keep the team on course.  Pierce put up 24/6/5.5 with over two threes and a steal on 62% from the floor and 95% from the stripe.  More than solid, good enough for the 5th spot in the weekly rankings.Power Forwards
  • Wilson Chandler, NYK, 3 games: Ill Will’s still doing his thing, hittin’ threes and swattin’ shots.  It wasn’t his craziest week by any stretch of the imagination… a block and 1.7 threes a game, but tack that onto 20 points and 7 boards on 55% and you’ve got a real nice line.

 Power Forwards

  • Lamarcus Aldridge, POR, 4 games: LaMarcus is thriving in his new main-man role in Portland.  He was the 6th best player in fantasy basketball with a line of 24/8.5/2.5 BLK on 51.3% FG and 85.7% FT.  Expect this type of production as long as Brandon Roy continues to sit out with the knee pain.
  • Zach Randolph, MEM, 4 games: Z-Bo did his usual 20/10 plus six extra points and 2.3 extra boards.  He shot 56% and threw in a little defense (1 SPG) for good measure.
  • Hedo Turkoglu, ORL, 4 games: Had to squeeze him in somewhere, and he has PF eligibility.  Turk doing 15/7/5?  HE’S BACK!  I told you he’d produce in Orlando, it’s the only place he’ll ever produce.  In addition to the 15/7/5 he knocked down 2.7 triples and actually shot over 50% from the floor.

Centers

  • DeAndre Jordan, LAC, 3 games: DeAndre was a shot-blocking machine!  He swatted 4.3 shots a night (13 total), a number large enough to virtually carry a squad in that category.  He also threw in 9 PPG on 86% FG (the guy missed two shots all week) and 7.7 boards.
  • DeMarcus Cousins, SAC, 4 games: DeMarcus managed to stay out of trouble for a week, which allowed him to put up some very nice numbers: 17.3/10.3/3.3 with over a steal on solid 50+/70+ percentages from the field and the stripe.  Talent isn’t the issue with Cousins, he’s clearly got a lot of that, so if he can continue to keep his head screwed on straight expect these numbers.  Don’t expect him to keep his head screwed on straight, though.
  • Blake Griffin, LAC, 3 games: Yes, he’s got C eligibility.  Anyway, My main man did 28.3/13.7/3/1 BLK on 58% shooting.  He clanked a lot of freethrows and didn’t produce in any other categories, but 28/14 alone is pretty damn studly.

DUDS

Point Guards

  • Baron Davis, LAC, 3 games: The Clipps have been playing better lately, but you wouldn’t know it from a glance at the Baron’s numbers.  Davis did 11.7/7.7 with a steal and nothing else.  Same old disappointing Baron.
  • Jameer Nelson, ORL, 3 games: Nelson’s minutes sunk to under 30 a game and his production suffered.  He did manage to average almost seven assists, but scored under 10 a game and shot pretty poorly (42%).  He did put up a couple 1.7s in the steals and threes categories, which is nice.  The main reason he’s on here is the minutes.  With Gilbert Arenas in town it’s something to keep an eye on.
  • Mike Conley, MEM, 4 games: 12/7 (I rounded up) probably isn’t what Memphis was looking for when they inked Mike to that monster contract.  It probably isn’t what fantasy owners were looking for, either.  That’s what they got, along with sub-70% freethrowing and under a three a game.  He got you a few steals, that’s about it.

Shooting Guards

  • Manu Ginobili, SAS, 3 games: Ginboli was simply ice cold.  He shot 26.5% from the floor, which resulted in an 11 PPG average.  At least eight of the nine buckets he did manage to make were threes.  That’s about as productive as a shooting slump can get.
  • Marcus Thornton, NOH, 4 games: Marcus appeared to have worked his way back into the Hornets’ rotation.  Now he appears to be headed back to the doghouse.  Thornton played just 14 MPG, and his playing time fell more and more in each game as the week progressed.  He played just eight minutes on Saturday and went 0-3.
  • Rip Hamilton, DET, 3 games: Richard’s not thriving in his new bench role.  First of all, his minutes have dropped.  Secondly, he shot 33% and scored under 8 PPG.  Aside from a steal a game he really didn’t contribute anything.  If he continues to ride the pine and play like 20 minutes a game he probably isn’t even worth having on your roster.

Small Forwards

  • Jeff Green, OKC, 4 games: Jeff played 30 minutes a game… he just didn’t do anything.  He only scored 9.5 PPG, and other than a few boards and steals he litterally did nothing.  Poor shooting from both the floor and the line probably made him more harmful than helpful.
  • Lamar Odom, LAL, 4 games: The dip I’ve been waiting for in Lamar’s production since the arrival of Andrew Bynum appears to have shown up.  His numbers were down approximately a point, three boards, and an assist.  14.5/6.8 isn’t that bad, but it’s disappointing considering what Lamar’s been doing so far.  I guess he wasn’t really a dud, but I wanted to throw this info out there.
  • Richard Jefferson, SAS, 3 games: 10/5/1 on 39%?  Sounds like the RJ of last season.  RJ’s been in a bit of a slump over the past couple weeks after a pretty strong start.  I’m not going to lie to you, I don’t watch many Spurs games, so I have no idea what the problem is.  All I can tell you is that according to the numbers he sucked ass last week.

Power Forwards

  • Pau Gasol, LAL, 4 games: 12.5/9 on great percentages with a couple swats is excellent production from some players… but it’s not exactly what you’re looking for out of Pau Gasol.  He shot under nine times a game, which limited his scoring.  He averages 14 shots a game on the year.  Pau always has these stretches where he seems to forget to assert himself for a few games, he’ll be back to normal soon.
  • Jason Thompson, SAC, 3 games: He’s still starting, but he isn’t playing enough.  JT got just 22 MPG last week and failed to do much with it.  He scored under 10 points, grabbed just five boards, and bricked almost half of his FTs.  Probably time to send him back to the FA wire.
  • Brandon Bass, ORL, 3 games: Orlando’s new starting four isn’t really doing much, which kind of surprises me.  He did have a couple good games two weeks ago, but didn’t do much of anything last week.  He averaged 9/5 on 58% with nothing else in 25 MPG.

Centers

  • Roy Hibbert, IND, 4 games: Forgettable week for the young guy who’s had a breakout season.  He played under 22 MPG and averaged 10/6 with a block, which would’ve been normal last season.  We’ve come to expect more from Big Hibbs in 2011.
  • Andrew Bogut, MIL, 3 games: 11.7 boards?  Ok.  Just under three swats?  Alright.  Under nine PPG?  WTF is that about?  He shot 32.5% from the floor on 13.3 shots a game… that sucks, especially from your center.  He bricked all three of his freethrows on the week too.
