Games To Watch, Week Eleven (1/3-1/9)

Monday, January 3rd:  Timberwolves @ Celtics, 7:30 ET, FSNO CSNE

Why?  Because I’ll be there!  Look for me in row one of section 19.  I’ll be the guy who’s not wearing any Celtics gear.  I would’ve been wearing some sick T-Wolves gear, a blue Starbury Wolves jersey, to be specific… but I left that in Maine.  I know, I choked.  Hopefully my boy Super Cool has a big night.

Tuesday, January 4th: Spurs @ Knicks, 7:30 ET, FSSW MSG

New York has been iffy against good teams, but I’ll tune in for Amare vs. Duncan.  Hopefully it’ll be reminiscent of the 2005 playoffs with Amare going off for a 40-point double-double.  The 40-point part wouldn’t surprise me, the ten boards would be shocking.

Wednesday, January 5th: Nuggets @ Clippers, 10:30 ET, ALT, FSPT

The first of two Blake Griffin games to make the list this week.  Griff will have a challenging matchup with Kenyon Martin, who is is my opinion the best man defender in the league at the PF position.  When K-Mart takes a breather, I sense that Shelden Williams’ forehead could be in particularly grave danger of being stamped with an impression of Blake’s nuts.

Thursday, January 6th: Thunder @ Mavericks, 8:00 ET, TNT

This was the easiest decision ever.  My other choice?  Kings @ Nuggets.  That one just happened a few days ago… the Nuggets won by like 20 points while playing as if it was a pickup game.  I’ve read that Dirk should be back for this one.  It was against the Thunder that he strained his knee on the 27th of December.

Friday, January 7th: Knicks @ Suns, 10:30 ET, ESPN

STAT’s return to the desert?  No?  Alright, I guess it’s not that exciting… but neither are any of the other selections.  Friday’s supposed to feature exciting matchups, but the schedule makers appear to have dropped the ball this week.  The other national TV game is Houston @ Orlando, which I’m sure was meant to be a Yao vs. Dwight showcase, but is now the Kev Mart vs. J-Rich chuckfest.  That’s what they get for assuming Yao would be healthy in January.  Cleveland pays Golden State a visit at 10:30, I’ll probably watch that one.  DeShawn Stevenson just dropped 21 on the Cavs.  According to my calculations, that means Monta Ellis should score 84.

Saturday, January 8th: Celtics @ Bulls, 8:00 ET, NBATV

I’m tired of hearing these dumbass Celtics homers dub Rondo the best point guard in the NBA.  PLEASE Derrick, drop 30 and carry your team to a victory.  That just might shut them up for the night.  I’m going to take this opportunity to make a statement: Rajon Rondo is not a top five PG in the league.  Williams, Rose, Paul, Nash and Westbrook >>> Rondo.

Sunday, January 9th: Warriors @ Clippers, 3:30 ET, CSBA FSPT

On paper this is looking like a big night for Blake Griffin.  The Warriors have no one who can stay in front of him or keep him off the glass.  This is a severely undersized frontcourt that Griff could litterally tear to shreds.  I’m talking 5+ dunks, 40+ points, 15+ boards.  Aside from the Griffin stuff, it’s a matchup of the league’s most interesting sub-.500 teams.  This is what NBA League Pass is all about.
