The Starting Lineup: Anthony Davis Runs Rampant On The ‘Cats

No video from New Orleans, but it appears that Anthony Davis ran rampant on the ragtag bunch that is the Bobcats’ frontcourt. Coming off a bit of a struggle in his debut, Davis fell just one board shy of double-double as he posted 22 points and 9 rebounds. Unfortunately, the absence of TV cameras has led to a lack of details, but I suppose the numbers speak for themselves. The AP’s game story does mention that Davis and fellow rookie Austin Rivers keyed a 12-0 run to bring the Bees back from an 11-point halftime deficit.

In a battle for the ages, Robin Lopez gave DeSagana Diop the business; 18 points and 13 boards for Sideshow Bob.

The Washington Wizards held an open practice yesterday, and it sounds like it was pretty damn Wizard-y. Based on the Twitter timelines of Michael Lee and Mike Prada, I’ve established that there were Harlem Shakes, mistimed chest bumps, and awkward daps between Randy Wittman and Big Tigger.

Flip Murray probably wishes his path didn’t cross Kirk Hinrich, as his path is now less likely to lead him back to the league. It appears that Hinrich, a one-time all-defensive player, hasn’t forgotten what Murray did to him in the ’07 Playoffs. Last night, a vengeful Hinrich held Flip to just 11 points on 12 shots. In the second half, Hinrich stuffed one of Murray’s three-point attempts just a possession prior to stealing one of his passes. Rough night for Ronald, whose Grizzlies fell to Kirk’s Bulls 92-88.

Whether it was his lanky frame, his baggy uniform, his headband/arm sleeve combo, or a combination of all three, something about CJ Miles in his Cavalier uniform made him a dead ringer for Larry Hughes. Had he not scored a team-high 18 points against the Bucks, he may not have left Canton alive.

Marquis Daniels, a Milwaukee Buck, racked up 10 points and 6 rebounds in 28 minutes in last night’s victory over the Cavs. He looked like the old ‘Quis… a methodically-effective weapon inside of the painted area. I could never figure out exactly what kept him out of the Celtics’ lineup, but last night’s vintage display of prowess around the rim was certainly promising.

Drew Gooden, Samuel Dalembert, Tobias Harris, Ersan Ilyasova, Ekpe Udoh, Joel Przybilla, Larry Sanders… it’s a bit of a logjam in Scott Skiles’ frontcourt. Of the seven of ‘em, Harris and Sanders were the best last night, scoring a combined 21 points to go along with 11 rebounds. Ilyasova will get his run, obviously, but a great deal of minutes at the starting five and backup four are available for the taking. It’ll be interesting to see if these roles remain filled by committee, or if one of these players will step up and take the job. Considering Scott Skiles’ temperment, I’m gonna say the Bucks start a lot of different lineups this season.

Vince Carter revved up the ol’ bike, but that wasn’t enough to propel the Mavericks past FC Barcelona. Former Grizzly Juan “La Bomba” Navarro dropped 19 in FC’s 14-point triumph.
