CBA Recap, January 15th: Dongguan, Beijing Remain Tied For Second Place

Dongguan 111 Foshan 109: Dongguan has moved all the way up to second place due to their recent winning ways (and everyone else’s losing ways). Josh Akognon had one of his best games of the season, dropping 40 on the Dragons this morning… although he did miss 13 three-pointers. They won, so I suppose it’s whatever. Shavlik Randolph had 23/11. Marcus Haislip led Foshan with 31 (and 14 boards).

Beijing 112, Bayi 98: Well, at least the Ducks are still good enough to beat Bayi. They’ll remain tied with Dongguan for second place in the standings. Starbury posted a double-double of 24/10, and Ranolph Morris dropped a game-high 27. Wang Zhizhi led the Rockets with 26.

Fujian 116, Shandong 95: Alan Anderson returned for Shandong after missing a game with an ankle injury, but his 25/6/4 weren’t enough. Fujian pulled ahead in the second quarter as they out-scored Shandong 30-19. Anthony Roberson and Will McDonald went for 30 a piece. Othello Hunter actually failed to record a double-double (23/9). That doesn’t happen often.

Shanxi 119, Tianjin 102: The Brave Dragons came with another big offensive effort keyed by top-10 scorers Marcus Williams and Charles Gaines, who combined for 57. They posted a 34-point first quarter and ran away with it from there. Tianjin wasted a 31/15 effort from David Harrison, who’s been posting bigger numbers lately.

Qindago 115, Xinjiang 97: Tim Pickett’s 55-point game led to a win last round, but it wouldn’t become a trend for a struggling Xinjiang team. Pickett scored a team-high 24 in this one, but he went just 5-21 from the floor. Lester Hudson went 9-15 from three-point land as he dropped 41/10/6.

Guangdong 101, Shanghai 85: I checked the box around halftime and noticed that this was a one-point game. I checked again about 15 minutes later and Guangdong was up 20. The Sharks have been rolling lately, but Guangdong is on a level of their own. James Singleton led the dominant Southern Tigers with 27 while Marcus Landry led Shanghai with 23.

Zhejiang 116, Jiangsu 93: Josh Boone led the way for Zhejiang with 26/11 on 13-18 in this easy victory. JR Smith was in cruise control as he dropped 18/7/9 on 6-1, and Cao Fei, the pink-shoed point guard, contributed 20. Jackson Vroman did 25/10 for Jiangsu.

Liaoning 106, Guangsha 92: Wilson Chandler (3-12, 8 PTS) and company have dropped their fourth in a row. Peter John Ramos posted 18 and 22, but once again he didn’t get a whole lot of shots (11). Six players, led by Rodney Carney and his 29 points, scored in double figures for Liaoning.
