The Five Worst Quotes Of The Post-Lockout Frenzy

On Wednesday, the NBA allowed it’s teams to begin making comments on their rosters, the season to come, and pretty much anything else they felt the need to talk about, save for the pending CBA agreement.  The league also allowed GMs to begin talking with players’ agents, and although they still can’t talk to players directly, there certainly hasn’t been any shortage of rumors regarding player movent.  All of this madness has resulted in press conferences, questions, and answers; some of the answers being of the not-so-good variety.  Here are a few examples (red text = me talking)…

#5: Delonte West on his own abilities: “I’m in the same category as Jason Terry and Jamal Crawford. I think my name should be right in that talk. As far as you saying, ‘Let’s get a guy we can put on our bench who can come in and get it done,’ I think I’m right in the same talk with them.’’

Delonte, I love you, man.  You’re one of the funniest characters in the league, and you can hold your own on an NBA floor… but no.  Just… no.

#4: Ernie Grunfeld on what he wants to see from his Wizards: “…we want to see good teamwork and playing the game the right way.”

Better let Nick walk and trade Javale.

#3: Various sources on Paul to NY talk: “Carmelo Anthony says he’s never discussed a potential Paul trade/move to New York with Chris Paul.”

Carmelo… c’mon son.  To quote my favorite film ever: I see you two all the time, you’re thick as thieves, you are!  Comment if you know what movie that’s from.

#2: Shaq on Rondo/Paul trade talk: “Chris Paul is not better than Rajon Rondo… Rajon Rondo is the true definition of a point guard, period. He gets everybody involved and he scores when he has to. Chris Paul scores a lot of points, but when was the last time they made it to the playoffs? Thank you very much.”

Last season.  They took the Lakers to six games while relying heavily on players like Aaron Gray and Marco Bellineli.

#1: Paul Silas on Corey Maggette: ”Corey has got to come through. He can be a 20-point scorer. He’s going to be the focal point of our offense. We’re going to rely on him to get it done for us, and he can.”

I’m so sorry, Bobcat fans.

Yes, David Kahn did have a press conference.  He managed to avoid saying anything stupid by not really saying anything at all.  “I’m excited about the upcoming season.”  …he pretty much took that one, rinse/repeated a few times, and called it a day.
