10/28/10: Where Blowouts Happen.

Random Observations: Remember to right click the links and open them in a new window or tab to stay on the page… still working on that external links thing…

  • Highlight Recap: Cartier Martin stuffs a Dwight Howard dunk attempt (if the Wizards didn’t lose by 273 points I’d be raving about this play.  I guess I can still rave about it, because it’s not like it’s Cartier Martin’s fault that the Wizards suck.  He had 17 points on 5 of 9 and denied a two-handed dunk attempt by Dwight freaking Howard at the rim.  The guy is a shooting guard, it’s not supposed to work that way.  That’s a hell-of-a block for a big man, let alone 6-7 Cartier Martin.).  Ryan Anderson strong two-handed throwdownJohn Wall crosses up Chris DuhonSteve Nash finds J-Rich for a buzzer-beating dunkDeron Williams monster dunk.
  • Breaking News: The Wizards suck.  Man, they looked all discombobulated out there last night as they lost by 29 to the Magic.  Guys were forcing bad shots, missing open shots, messing up defensive rotations… it was just ugly.  Sam Cassell ugly.  John Wall got a tough matchup for the first game of his career.  He’s going to make a living driving to the basket at this stage of his career.  Driving to the basket isn’t easy when Dwight Howard is waiting for you underneath the rim.  Orlando allowed wall to shoot jumpers and did a pretty good job keeping him out of the paint, and it worked.  Wall made only 6 of 19 shot attempts.  Still, he made a variety of nice plays.  He did manage to showcase his speed and get all the way to the rim on a couple of occasions, and he managed to get 9 assists playing for a team that only made 37% of it’s shots.  Anyway, the most entertaining part of this game was when Dwight Howard choked under the pressure of MVP chants at the stripe and then punished himself by doing pushups on the sideline.  It is now clear to me how he got so big, the guy has missed over 1,700 freethrows in his career.
  • The late game failed to make up for the lameness of the early game.  Phoenix led Utah all night and ended up taking a 16 point victory in Salt Lake City.  Great win for the Suns, and not a good start for Utah… the last thing they needed was a loss on their home floor after being crushed by Denver in their season opener.  Jerry Sloan was right, that undefeated preseason isn’t meaning a damn thing right about now.  Andrei Kirilenko, please cut your hair.  I refuse to watch another Jazz game until you do so.
  • I found something good to say about the Wizards!  Here’s a video of Al Thornton and Nick Young having a little dunk contest in practice.  Check out Nick Young throwing down a between-the-legs dunk after tossing it to himself off the glass.  Impressive.
  • Allen Iverson has agreed to play in Turkey for the next two seasons for two million a year.  I wonder if they have practice in Turkey?  AI is praying that they’ve never heard of such a thing.
  • Tonight at 8 PM on ESPN, it’s the return of Quentin Richardson to Miami!  Dwyane Wade says “it’s going to be hot”.  Vince Carter says “we’re ready to get it going”.  Stan Van Gundy says “people know what our game is, it’s been the same for three years”.  Stubhub’s average price for any seat in the building is $325.  There’s going to be a pregame concert featuring rapper Pitbull.  You don’t want to miss this!  Note: Not only is this Q-Rich’s return to Miami, it’s also the Heat’s first home game since acquiring LeBron James and Chris Bosh.  Just a little added bonus.

Quote of the Day: Charles Barkley on AK-47′s hair…

“That’s just horrible.”

That’s two votes for horrible.
