Al Jefferson’s Earrings Are Really, Really, REALLY Big

Even amongst giants, Al Jefferson’s size stands out.  At six-feet ten-inches tall, he towers three inches higher than the average NBA player, and at 289 pounds, he’s often the heaviest man on the floor.  Yep,  Al Jefferson is pretty damn big, and the same can be said for a lot of his material possessions.  Having earned over 70 million dollars in salary (including what he is owed through the end of this season), Jefferson can afford such extravagances as humongous rims, massive beds, and gargantuan diamond earrings that would make your favorite rapper jealous.

Exactly how big are Jefferson’s earrings, you wonder?  While only Al and his jeweler know for sure, I think I’ve come up with a reasonable estimate.  Using the screen cap above, I’ve concluded that Jefferson’s ear is five to six times as tall as the diamond.  Based on the proportions of my own ear, I’m estimating that Al Jefferson’s ear is at least three inches tall.  That would give the diamond an approximate diameter of 14 millimeters, or a little over a half an inch.  While it’s obviously impossible for me — a basketball fan with no experience in dealing with diamonds — to determine the exact carat weight of a stone based on a fuzzy screen shot, a 14-millimeter round-cut diamond would weigh in at about 10 carats.  There are currently just two stones of that size and style for sale on BlueNile.com, with the lesser of the two priced at $358,583.00.  Yes, I can confirm that Jefferson had a matching boulder hanging from his right ear, too.

If real, I think it’s fair to assume that these earrings are worth multiple hundreds of thousands of dollars.  I’m not going to slap a price tag of $715,000 on them due to a variety of outstanding factors — color, clarity, and the fact that celebrities don’t pay the markup that we commoners do — but they most certainly cost a pretty penny.

Official –Swag-O-Meter– Rating:

5/5

Do your thing, Big Al, but just remember to put a little somethin’ somethin’ away for a rainy day.  Diamond earrings don’t make very good umbrellas, if you catch my drift.
