POTD 10/26/12: Marreese Speights on Jonas Valanciunas

Jonas Valanciunas, meet Marreese Speights.  He’s a 6’10 forward/center who backs up Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol in Memphis, where he averaged 8.8 points per game last season.  While Speights most certainly isn’t the All-Star caliber player that Randolph and Gasol are, he’s a far superior athlete.  In order to contain Marreese, you may want to keep within arms length around the elbow area, where he’s proficient with the jumper.  You’d be wise to stand clear near the rim, though, where he’s liable to drop the hammer on your dome.

Honorable mention to Josh Smith, who threw down a similar dunk over a late-arriving Jason Maxiell.  Smith will be rewarded for his efforts in the Throwback Poster segment.

Dunk rating on the Starbury Nastiness Scale:

8/10 Starbury Nasty Faces

Throwback Poster of the Day: Josh Smith leaps so far he nearly changes time zones, dunking on Jiri Welsch in the process…
