Blake Griffin Passes Off The Wall To Himself, Dunks Powerfully

So I’m on twitter and I see this video, which is pretty awesome.  Then I read a report stating that Griffin has elevated himself to “lock” status with Team USA.  Finally, I put one and two together: Blake Griffin, basketball’s Sultan of Smash, will be playing no fewer than five games against lesser-than-NBA competition this summer.  In all likelihood he’ll actually be playing eight (assuming my understanding of this whole Olympic tournament format is sound).

What I’m getting at here is that Blake Griffin is going to have a lot of opportunities to do some really cool stuff.  I don’t think we’ll see anything quite as AND1 Mixtape as a self pass off the wall, but last time a dunker of Griffin’s caliber appeared in the Olympic Games, the following happened:

Vince Carter’s summer of ’00 highlight reel stands as one of the finest single-player, single-season dunk compilations I’ve ever seen, and while I firmly believe that Half Man is the most spectacular ever to throw down, there’s reason to have similar expectations of young Griffin.

***Semi-related note: Pops Mensah-Bonsu plays for Great Brittain.

***Update: Griffin also pulled a Jason Richardson.
