The Starting Lineup: Ugliest All-Star Uniforms Ever

And you haven’t even seen the two-for-ten-dollar Footlocker shorts yet. Or maybe they’re swim trunks from Wal-Mart, I don’t even know.  Anyway, go ahead and check them out.  The first thing I noticed about these unis is that the lettering is all screen printed.  Why?  Then I realized that the whole jersey appears to be made of that cheap, replica material.  Again, why?  After that I finally considered the actual design.  No surprises there… they f@ck that part up every year.  In doing about five minutes of research I learned that nearly every aspect of these pieces of sh!t are inspired by something about Florida, or the City of Orlando.  Firstly, what a sh!tty representation of your venue.  Secondly, why do the idiots that come up with these hideous designs feel the need to be so creative?  Just create a normal-looking basketball uniform you dumbasses.

Last night, the All-Star starters were announced on TNT. In other words, Ernie Johnson confirmed that people from New York still like Carmelo Anthony even though he gets locked up by Jimmy Butler late in three-point losses.  Seriously though, does anyone really care about the All-Star game?  Anyone at all?  Okay, didn’t think so.  Let’s talk about the aforementioned Carmelo Anthony instead.  According to the box score, this dude got stuffed four times.  I wasn’t keeping a tally, but I’m pretty sure at least three of those blocked attempts came during the final few minutes as he repeatedly attempted to drive to the rim between three or four Chicago defenders.  As Marv Albert would’ve said on my NBA Live ’07 video game, it was all to no avail.  No avail whatsoever.  Dude made one basket in the fourth even though he shot like six times.  It was pretty ugly, and it looked even worse because Amare Stoudemire was working on a 34-point night on basically the same amount of shots.

You know what I think? Next time the Knicks make one of their big roster shakeups they should go after a different type of player.  Although Stephon Marbury and Zach Randolph were no Carmelo Anthony and Amare Stoudemire, consider the similarities.  They were/are all very talented players, but whether or not they wanted/want to commit to playing the game the right way… that was/has always been the question with these dudes.  This franchise and their fans simply don’t need any more players like that.  They need some hard workers they can rally around every night.  Maybe they’re not as talented as STAT and Melo… maybe they don’t even have the cool nicknames (/sarcasm), or the signature sneakers, and maybe they don’t jump very high… but at least they’ve got a winning attitude.  You see what I’m getting at here?  The Knicks keep bringing in players with big names and numbers, but also big egos and questionable attitudes.  It’s as if they think basketball is played on paper.  Also, no more coaches like Mike D’Antoni.  This city needs someone that’s all about hustle and hard work… maybe Jerry Sloan or something.  I know New York is a big city and city folk seem to love stars, but don’t you think this fan base could get really passionate about supporting a team like, say, the Philadelphia 76ers?  They may not have an All-Star, but they’ve got an Oldschool Chevy, a really good coach, and 16 wins.

The Clippers won the first quarter 32-19. The Nuggets won the game 112-91.  I suppose that’s not quite as bad as what the Heat did on Wednesday, but it was still pretty bad (what the Heat did on Wednesday was score 40 in the first quarter only to lose 97-105 to the Bucks, by the way).  Anyway, I knew the Clipper bench was a little weak, but I didn’t realize that they were 29th in scoring.  Here I was thinking Mo Williams and Randy Foye were carrying their share of the load.  I guess not.  Turns out Randy is only averaging 7 PPG.  So, Clippers fans, who would you rather sign for the stretch run: Kenyon Martin or JR Smith?  Martin has been cleared by Fiba to resume his NBA career immediately, but China wants him to make him wait a few more weeks (my thoughts on that are that K-Mart signed for $3 mil over there and mailed it in… he deserves this).  As for JR, his team is currently in the playoff picture, but could very well lose in the first round.  Let’s just figure that he’s back for March and April.  So, what’s more important to you: the offense or the defense?

Larry Hughes has been waived by the Orlando Magic, who have signed Ish Smith to replace him.  The Orlando Magic basically have three choices right now: they can make a move to keep Dwight, trade Dwight, or simply sit there, twiddle their thumbs, and wait for Dwight to leave.  Otis Smith is twiddling his thumbs right now.

Sorry I’m posting this at 2 PM.  I’m still sick and not completely functional.
