11/17/10: Michael Beasley Still Ballin’.

Super Cool added another 33 points to the 130 that he’d scored over the course of his previous four games.  This puts him at an average of 33.2 a night for the last five games.  I’d say that qualifies as ballin’.  The San Antonio Spurs are also ballin’, they won their 8th in a row.  My main man Sonny Weems is ballin’ too, he scored a career-high 25.  Read on to learn more about who is and who isn’t ballin’…

Random Observations:

  • Highlight Recap: Amir Johnson swats a shot, Sonny takes it coast-to-coast for the hammerAnthony Tolliver spikes a shot into the crowdJason Kidd sets up Tyson Chandler for a dunkKG throws it downRonnie Brewer crams itWestbrook lobs one to DurantManu Ginobili makes a crafty move and throws it downRussell Westbrook steals and slamsLamar Odom behind-the-back to Pau GasolDwyane Wade crosses Josh Childress out his ‘fro and throws it in reverse.
  • Lowlight Recap: LeBron James with a serious flop.  Het does get bumped by Earl Barron, but he makes it appear as if he’s just been struck by a cannon ball.  Joel Anthony looks like he’s never played basketball before.  Yes, that really is a man who’s playing in his 4th NBA season.
  • Not only did Michael Beasley drop 33, he hit the game winning bucket to put his Wolves over the Clipps.  Beasley went 14-23 from the floor and added 7 boards, and Kevin Love had another great game with 24/13 of his own.  The T-Wolves hit 25 of 28 freethrows on the night.  Darko Milicic, who is shooting something like 34% on the season, managed to put the ball in the basket five times on just six attempts.  For the Clippers, Eric Gordon scored 30 for the second night in a row, and Blake Griffin had his best stat-line yet with 26/17.  I believe 20 of those points came in the first half.
  • Chris Bosh scored 35 as Miami killed Phoenix by 27.  All of the Suns’ starters scored in double figures and as a team they scored 96 points, but they gave up 123.  Steve Nash had just two assists (the fewest he’s had since 2008).  Juwan Howard broke his nose, Eddie House had 15 points off the bench…  I already elaborated on Chris Bosh’s performance last night, and that was pretty much the story here, so I guess I don’t have anything else about this one.
  • Tim Duncan scored 16 points and collected 18 boards as the Spurs beat the Bulls.  This was San Antonio’s 8th victory in a row (they’re yet to lose in the month of November).  The Spurs, who have been known to start slow in recent years, are currently at 9-1 on the season.  They’ve never had a better record to begin a season in the Tim Duncan era.  Tony Parker, who is getting divorced from his TV-star wife Eva Longoria (OMG!), scored 21 points on 9-14.  Looks like he’s over it already.  He did give up 33 to Derrick Rose on the other end, who as you may recall scored exactly 33 last night as well.  Rose has been on a tear to start the season.  His stats are up across the board, including a 5 PPG increase from last season.  So far the big stats have only translated to marginal success, as the Bulls are now at 6-4 on the season.  That being said, they’ve been without Carlos Boozer all season, so it’s unfair to judge them at this point.
  • Someone’s losing streak had to end last night as New York travelled to Sacramento to play the Kings.  The Knicks entered the game with six straight losses, and the King with five.  After falling down by 15 early, the Knicks ended up snapping their streak.  After getting off to a rough start New York was able to finish the game shooting 52%.  They also knocked down 33 of 39 attempts from the stripe.  Amare Stoudemire had what has been a rare Amare-like game with 27/10.  Danilo Gallinari knocked down 16 of 17 FTs and also finished with 27/10.
  • My main man Sonny Weems, who has been on a tear lately (18 ppg over the last five), scored a career-high 25 points last night and helped the Raptors beat the Sixers and win their second game in the month of November.  Sonny has started the last four games, sending Linas Kleiza to the bench.  Andrea Bargnani led the Raps with 30 points, and Reggie Evans had 14 boards.  Rookie SG Evan Turner had 12 boards for the Sixers.
  • The Dallas/New Orleans rematch was a good one.  If you don’t recall, the Mavs handed the Hornets their first loss of the season on Monday.  The bees got down by double-digits for the first time all season, but that didn’t keep them from getting revenge last night, as they came back and beat the Mavs by two.  Every starter for New Orlans had at least 12 points.  David West stole the ball from Dirk Nowitzki in the final seconds to preserve the victory.  New Orleans is still yet to give up more than 99 points to any ooponent this season.
  • The other games: Rip Hamilton got tossed with two technicals as the Pistons lost to the Lakers by 13.  Washington got murked by the Celtics (31 points to be specific).  Russell Westbrook had 21/12 for the Thunder, who beat the Rockets by 17.  Paul Millsap had 19/15 to help put the Jazz over the Nets.
  • A couple Kings games just turned into must-see TV.  Bill Walton will be doing his thing on a variety of Sacramento’s local broadcasts throughout the season.  Thank you, basketball Gods, for bringing Bill back to our televisions…  even if it will only happen a couple times a year.  I have really missed this… I’m pretty sure we all have.
  • More bad news for the Blazers and Greg Oden.  Oden will undergo microfracture surgery on his left knee and will miss the rest of the 2010/11 season.  This is obviously a sad story and I feel terrible for the guy.  He hasn’t been able to play a single game since 2009, and microfracture surgery comes with a long recovery process, so who knows when he’ll be back.  The Blazers did not extend his contract, so he may very well have suited up for Portland for the final time already.  Oden will become a restricted free agent at the end of this season.

Quote of the Day: Clippers coach Vinny Del Negro tries to remain positive…

“There’s nothing you can do but keep grinding it out, get ready for tomorrow and try to get some of the troops back, get Chris and Baron and Randy back and see if that can give us a little bit of a boost.”

Seeing as Kaveman has been his usual inconsistent self, Randy Foye is Randy Foye, and Baron’s give-a-shit level is at an all-time low…  yeah, good luck getting that boost.
