3/5/11: How Sick Is Trevor Booker?

Trevor Booker?  Who the hell is that, you may be wondering.  Ladies and gentlemen, Trevor Booker:

I’ve watched a lot of NBA basketball in my lifetime, I’ve got a pretty good memory, and I can’t honestly say that I recall seeing anything quite like this before.  Not only did Booker dunk on two consecutive possessions, which is a rarity, he put together a string of two NASTY dunks… which almost never happens… and when you take into account the fact that they were both putbacks… nope, don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone do that before.  For those of you who enjoy being difficult to impress (congratulations, you are the most annoying type of NBA fan), this next part is for you: Trevor Booker recorded the fastest three-quarter court sprint time of any Washington Wizard at the NBA combine.  John Wall is a Wizard, and he was at the NBA combine.  We can all agree that John Wall is pretty fast, right?  I thought so.  Trevor Booker weighs 240 pounds, is built like a linebacker, and runs like John Wall.  So, how sick is Trevor Booker?  Sick enough to get a whole intro section out of a seven-point night.

Random Observations:

  • Highlight Recap, everything else Edition: The top 10 has you covered today…

  • Those four spectacular points you saw from Trevor Booker came in the midst of a 14-7 Wizards run that gave them a seven-point lead over the T-Wolves with two and a half minutes to go.  They would hold onto that lead and pick up the win, 103-96.  John Wall missed out on a triple-double by two assists (18/11/8), and Andray Blatche led the Wiz with 20 points.  Maurice Evans, who has spent the majority of the past couple seasons on ATL’s bench, scored 15 points off the pine.  I always felt like Mo was a pretty solid player ever since I saw him playing for the Lakers as a young gun.  He’s also got one of the most unique posterizations I’ve ever seen under his belt:

  • Okay, getting back on track here… Kevin Love’s double-double streak is alive and well (50); he recorded a routine 20 points and 21 boards in the loss.  The T-Wolves could’ve helped their cause by holding onto the basketball… they coughed it up 21 times (each starter recorded at least two TOs).  This win snapped a seven-game losing streak for the Wizards.
  • European basketball fans were treated to a three-hour 22-minute spectacle in London yesterday afternoon.  I watched this game until late in the third quarter, left for over an hour, and came home to find it in the middle of double OT.  I’m going to give you the highlights of this one… I’d be here all day if I tried to write a summarize this game.

  • Kind of a questionable shot by Bargnani on the final possession.  I find it odd that he chose to simply let the clock wind down while not making a single move off the dribble to try to get closer to the basket or create more space… but he was probably gassed at that point, who knows.  You saw Travis Outlaw looking clutch at the freethrow line, but they didn’t show you the two buckets he made in the third OT.  He scored New Jersey’s final eight points.  Travis has kind of disappeared since joining the Nets.  He used to be known as a big shot maker during his last couple of seasons with the Portland Blazers.  Somehow, in a game that lasted 63 minutes, the Raptors only turned the ball over seven times.  Toronto also had a huge edge in fastbreak points (19-3).  They got pounded in the paint, though… Brook Lopez went for 34/14 and Kris Humphries did 20/17.  Had Brook Lopez not reached 10 boards in this game I would’ve refused to speak of him on my blog ever again.  DeMaR DeRoZaN led the Raps with 30, the same amount he scored in Friday’s game.
  • The good news?  The Clippers picked up an impressive 100-94 victory over the Nuggets, who had been looking excellent.  The bad news?  Eric Gordon took a hard fall and re-aggrivated the wrist injury that he had just returned from in the previous game.  He was unable to shoot his freethrows after the spill and it isn’t known how long he will remain out of the lineup.  There was one positive that came of EG’s misfortune: Eric Bledsoe stepped up and had the game of his life.  Bledsoe finished the game with a career-high 20 points in 22 minutes, 15 of which came in the fourth quarter of a game which was anything but decided.  His biggest shot of the night was probably the triple which put the Clipps up 94-86 with 2:40 to go.  He also came up with a clutch steal (one of his seven swipes in the game) with 12 second left that finished the Nuggets off for good.  DeAndre Jordan was nowhere near as impressive as Bledsoe, but he had a nice game with 10 points on 5-5 along with five boards and four swats in 28 minutes.  Why Del Negro even entertains the idea of playing Chris Kaveman… I have no idea.  Blake Griffin missed out on a triple-double by a single assist (18/12/9).  The Nuggets had a horrible shooting night (39%), but were able to stick around by dominating the offensive glass (24-6).  Nene led the Nuggs with 25/14.
  • The Other Games: Gerald Wallace and Joel Przybilla faced their former teams for the first time.  Neither player did much of anything (The Vanilla Gorilla did foul six times), but the rest of Gerald’s squad showed up to play while the rest of Joel’s squad did not.  Portland took it 93-69… did Larry Brown make a comeback or something?  Sixty-nine points and 21 turnovers… yuck.  The Rockets improved to 6-1 since the All-Star break with a 112-95 win over the Pacers.  They’ve only beaten one team that’s worth a damn and the loss was to the Clippers… but 6-1 is 6-1, I guess.  Six Rockets scored 12 or more in last night’s victory.  The Kings forced OT in Utah, but they proceeded to allow 14 points in the extra period, resulting in a 109-102 loss.  DeMarcus Cousins recorded 18/18 (career-high in boards).  Al Jefferson led Utah with 27.

Quote of the Day: Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov on why basketball is better than soccer…

“In basketball I know my team is going to score.”

Word.  I could see myself being friends with this dude.
