Fantasy Studs & Duds, Week 17

I’m going to do this a little differently than I normally do.  Last week lasted just four days due to the All-Star break, which means no one played more than two times, and a lot of guys only played once.  The lack of action makes me feel like it’s kind of a waste of time to list 30 players like I normally do, so I’m just going to mention a few ballers and call it good.

STUDS (One Game)

  • Courtney Lee, HOU: Four threes, two steals, and a block were bigger than they look seeing as it was a four-game week.  That’s a huge boost from a guy who most likely could’ve been added as a free agent.  His 22 points, six boards, and four assists were also solid contributions.
  • Mike Conley, MEM: Conley knocked down four threes and added five steals to his 22 points.  He didn’t contribute much in other categories, but five steals is huge in a short week.
  • Andrea Bargnani, TOR: Andrea lit the Heat up for 38 points on 15-26 (five threes) FG.  He didn’t really do anything other than score… but you should expect that at this point.  Five threes and 38 points could’ve had you well on your way to winning two categories.
  • Ramon Sessions, CLE: Ramon lit Derrick Fisher up for 32 points on 9 of 16 shooting and 13 of 14 freethrowing.  He also gave you eight dimes, a three, and three steals.
  • Daequan Cook, OKC: Daequan had a damn good 21 minutes in a blowout over the Kings.  He dropped five threes on his way to 20 points and threw in five boards for good measure.

STUDS (Two Games)

  • Pau Gasol, LAL: 30 total boards and 19 of 20 freethrowing were probably the most major contributions Pau made, but he also gave you 23.5 PPG, 58% FG, eight total assists, and a couple steals.
  • Channing Frye, PHX: Channing just couldn’t miss… he shot damn near 68 percent from the field while knocking down 4.5 threes a game.  His 27.5 PPG made him one of the top scorers out of all the players who had two games, and his 19 total boards were more than you’d expect from him.
  • Steve Nash, PHX: Steve dished 28 assists… that’s half of a total that won me the category.  Flawless freethrowing and 17.5 PPG are nice additions to the dishes.
  • Kyle Lowry, HOU: Kyle padded his digits by exploding for 36 points and seven assists in a loss to Philly.  His other game could be described as routine at best, but in a short week the 36-pointer alone was enough to make him a stud.
  • Derrick Rose, CHI: D-Rose came up huge with 60 points, 20 assists, and 14-15 freethrowing.  He may have lost you TOs with seven of ‘em, but the three aforementioned stats more than cancel that out.

DUDS (One Game)

  • Kevin Durant, OKC: KD’s only game wasn’t a good one… He played just 27 minutes due to Sac Town’s suckiness, and he couldn’t really get in rhythm.  Durant bricked 13 of his 18 shots, although he did make all six of his freebies.
  • Mo Williams, CLE: Ramon Sessions was destroying the Lakers, so Mo was instructed to watch from the bench.  His only numbers were a missed shot and a TO in three minutes.
  • Gilbert Arenas, ORL: Two points on 1-6 FG with three TOs.  Typical Gil game.  Actually, it looks like he dished six dimes… this was probably an above average outing for the Agent.
  • OJ Mayo, MEM: Juice returned from his juicing suspension and played six uneventful minutes.  He missed three of four shots, scored three points, and that was it.
  • Javale McGee, WAS: Javale was apparently saving his energy for the dunk contest.  He played just 14 minutes, which was enough time to miss five of six shots, but not enough time to block a shot.

DUDS (Two Games)

  • Chris Paul, NOH: CP3…… didn’t really do much of anything.  He averaged just 9.5/3/7.5 without a single three and just one steal.  He didn’t shoot particularly well from the field or the line, and the Hornets lost twice.  Certainly not his best week ever.
  • Kobe Bryant, LAL: Kobe had just four more made shots than turnovers (18-12).  Must I continue?  …he also shot poorly, had zero steals, and his team lost to Cleveland.
  • Stephen Curry, GSW: Steph only played 23 MPG… he didn’t do much with ‘em, either.  He took 12 shots all week, making half of them, resulting in an average of just nine PPG.
  • Deron Williams, UTA: 14.5/11 is cool, but not when it comes with 11 turnovers and some dreadful 29 percent shooting.  Jerry Sloan probably doesn’t read my blog, but if he does I hope this made him smile.
  • Darren Collison, IND: Dude shot 18 percent on 22 shots… yikes.
