1/15/11: Andray Blatche Bobblehead Night.

14,652 fans showed up at the Phone Booth to get their hands on a coveted Andray Blatche bobblehead.  Dammit, I want an Andray Blatche bobblehead!  I’ve got the perfect spot for him on my shelf, right between Eddy Curry and Keon Clark.  Man, if my bobblehead collection was an actual NBA team they’d be the most dysfunctional squad in the history of the sport.  Allen Iverson and Ray Allen is a nice backcourt, but sh!t gets ugly up front.  Matt Barnes, Stromile Swift, and Eddy Curry round out the starting five with Keon Clark and two more Allen Iversons off the bench.  Imagine the chemistry issues.  Still, I bet they’d beat the Cavs by 25+.

Random Observations:

  • Andray Blatche put 17/13 on that Charmin soft Craptor frontcourt as the Wizards picked up a 98-95 victory over the Fossils.  Nick Young scored a game high 29 and Rashard Lewis knocked down three of four triples in a 13-point effort.  The Wizards had a slight edge on the glass and attempted two more FTs than the Craps, but surprisingly, they were outscored in the paint.  How you get outscored in the paint by a team which got almost 50% of it’s points from Andrea Bargnani and Jose Calderon… I have no idea… but it happened.  Jose Calderon grabbing a career-high nine rebounds (two more than Bargnani) also happened.
  • What more can I say about the Cleveland Cavaliers?  It’s gotten so ugly that I’m tuning in to their games to see how bad they can lose.  Seriously, I watched most of last night’s 28-point loss in Denver, and it entertained me.  I’ve always found garbage time to be kind of fun, and a Cavalier game is nothing but 48 minutes of it.  Denver put on a show, shooting 58% from the floor and 62% from three.  On the other hand, the Cavs went 38% from the floor and 21% from beyond the arc.  Denver had 79 points at the break, but gave guys like Melvin Ely and Anthony Carter extended run in the second half, which really limited their scoring ceiling.  They still ended up with 127.
  • Before I get to what happened in the Heat/Bulls game, I’ve got to ask my readers a question: since when is Kurt Thomas known as “Big Sexy”?  Stacey King was calling him that all night, and it confused the hell out of me.  Sexy isn’t the first word I’d use to describe Kurt’s game, and… yeah, I’m just going to stop right there.  Anyway, “Big Sexy” did his thing with 8/5 on 4-4, but this was a duel of the hometown heroes.  Derrick Rose and Dwyane Wade went back and forth down the stretch, each of them making a variety of tough shots as the lead changed hands multiple times.  Rose won the individual battle 34 to 33, and the game 99 to 96.  He got some help from Kyle Korver in the form of a game-winning three.  Wade and Rose were the only guys who broke 20.  Chris Bosh was next closest with 17, but he left with an injured ankle.  Miami’s now lost three in a row… which makes LeBron’s MVP case a little stronger.
  • Mavericks’ savior Dirk Nowitzki finally made his return after a nine-game absense that sent Dallas on a 2-7 skid, but he got himself tossed early in the third, and the Mavs got smacked again.  Dirk played just 14 minutes, and his absense left Dallas at the mercy of Zach Randolph.  Z-Bo hit ‘em with a healthy double-double, 23/20, as the Grizzlies took it 89-70.  Ian Mahinmi led Dallas with 17 points on 6-6 in their worst offensive game of the season.  Makes sense.  Jason Kidd, DeShawn Stevenson, Jason Terry, and JJ Berea collaborated to build Tennessee’s largest brick structure by going 8-38 from the floor.
  • The other games: Detroit’s bench, which is arguably as good or better than the starters, put up 42 points in a 110-106 victory over the Kings.  T-Mac left with a sore shin, he’s expected to miss 2-5 years.  The Bobcats are cooling off, they scored just 81 points in a seven-point loss to the Hornets.  Kwame Brown had 12 points and 14 boards in a losing effort.  Aaron Brooks had 24 off the bench as the Rockets beat the Hawks 112-106.  J-Rich and J-Redick dropped 21 each to lift the Magic over the T-Wolves 108-99.  Brook Lopez had his second consecutive game of 30+ (32), but in typical fashion had just three rebounds as the Nets took an L… this time to the Blazers, 96-89.

Quote of the Day: When I can’t find anything else that looks interesting, I go with Byron Scott…

“We played a team with too much firepower. With us as short-handed as we are right now, it puts us in a bad position.”

Short-handed, short-talented, short-moralled… the list goes on.

Photo of the Day: More Melo drama…

Supposedly they have “excess inventory” or some BS.
