Assorted Blowout Observations: 10 Games Decided By An Average Of 14 Points

***Tony Wroten had another nice game as the Grizzlies destroyed the Nets in a 101-77 rout.  He scored a career-high 11 points on 5-9 from the floor, including this monstrous alley-oop poster dunk over Kris Humphries.  The 19-year-old rookie’s aggressiveness has been very impressive to this point — he committed a pair of consecutive turnovers upon entering this game, but refused to let that rattle him.  Wroten went on to make a couple of spectacular no-look passes and left-handed takes to the rack.  At this point he has a tendency only to go left (and finish left even when he goes right), but at his young age he’s got plenty of time to add a right hand.  He’ll be forced to do so when opponents begin to catch on.

***Have you ever noticed that nobody doesn’t like John Wall?  Plenty of people doubt that he’ll live up to his draft position, and that’s obviously understandable, but it seems to me that every fan, blogger, and analyst desperately wants John Wall to realize his full potential whether they believe he can do it or not.  Watching him play against the Wolves on Friday, it was clear why he’s so overwhelmingly popular.

Who wouldn’t want to see 20 PPG’s worth of that?  You’d have to hate basketball.  Wall scored 14 and dished 5 assists.

***The Wizards’ blowout win over the Wolves (in which they shot FIFTY-EIGHT percent) represented their 10th of the season — five without John Wall, and five with John Wall.  Thing is, of course, they’ve played 23 without to just 8 with.  Work in progress or not, Wall has had a major impact on the Wizards.  His ability to make things happen not only for himself but for shooters like Bradley Beal and Martell Webster has turned the Wiz into a respectable ball club.  Now, I don’t expect them to continue at a .500+ pace for the rest of the season, but they’re certainly not worst in the league when at full strength.  For what it’s worth, Washington is a tier above a Sacramento or a Charlotte.

***Can we just go ahead and guarantee the contracts of Chris Johnson and Mickael Gelabale, David Kahn?  The 10-day demolition duo scored another 24 points for the Wolves, including 12 in the second quarter, when it still mattered.  Jelly is averaging 9/4 on 61% and CJ is doing 10/5 on 68%.  Both of them have literally been better than Derrick Williams.

***Ersan Ilyasova seems to be breaking through whatever funk he was in during the first half of the season.  Though the Bucks fell to Kyrie Irving (game-high 35 points) and his Cavaliers, Ilyasova had himself a third consecutive 20-point outing, and his first 30-point game since last March.  Apparently unaware of the shooting rampage that Ersan has been on, the Cavs allowed him free reign outside of the arc, from where he lit them up for five triples on six attempts.

***Ersan’s highlight reel didn’t quench your Saturday morning thirst for spot-up threes?  Well then, here are eight more from Kyle Korver.  Kover, who didn’t make a field goal until the 8:30 mark of the third quarter, led the Hawks from down 27 in the first half with 24 points in the second half.  Each of them came on a three-pointer.  The Hawks defeated the Celtics 123-111 by outscoring them 85-54 in the third, fourth, and two overtime periods.  Boston led by eight with three minutes to go in regulation but came up empty on seven straight possessions.  It was all downhill from there.  Josh Smith’s athleticism proved to be a key factor down the stretch.  He effortlessly stifled a Pierce isolation to conclude the first OT and scored an and-one putback layup to kick off the second OT.  The Cs basically waved the white flag after that, turning the ball over three times in three minutes.  Their now six-game losing streak is the longest of the KG era.

***The Sacramento Kings’ 2012/13 season in a nutshell: Kevin Durant gave his sneakers to a young fan… before the game was over.

***The Heat scored 56 points in the paint as they beat the Pistons 110-88.  They dunked so many times that Shane Battier actually thought he could two-hand stuff over Andre Drummond.  He couldn’t, of course, but the fact that he tried was awesomely commendable.  Also, Birdman + Miami = this douchebag.  Andersen scored two points on a layup and grabbed two rebounds in three minutes of garbage time.

***Kobe Bryant and Russell Westbrook had 22 combined assists last night.  While I don’t suggest that you start stocking up on canned goods and bottled water just yet, do be wary of more imminent signs that the world could be coming to its end.

***OH BABY!

***Lakers win?  More like Jazz lose (my god were they awful), but they happened to do so against the Lakers, so yeah, Lakers win.  Lemme know if they beat the Thunder on Sunday and we can talk.

***Sure, everyone has their own idea of a personal “best day ever.”  Making a half-court hook shot for $75,000 in front of 20,000 people and getting celebration-tackled by LeBron James pretty much captures the generic concept, though.

On the awesomeness scale of 1-10, this is like 5 billion.
