It came down to Ed Davis and Moe Harkless on the day after Christmas. Being that one dunk wasn’t significantly better than the other, I elected to leave the decision up to my friends from the InsideHoops forums. In this particular instance, only a smattering of people showed up at the polls… but those who did vote selected Harkless in a unanimous decision. I happen to agree with them, as Moe’s throw down involved much more contact than that of Ed Davis.
Having watched this dunk a few more times, I’ve realized that I actually like it more than I did initially. It’s pretty ill how Harkless cocks it back a bit to add that extra oomph, and I love how Robin Lopez appears just utterly helpless. Watch as he recklessly rushes to contest, but notice how quickly he realizes that he’s completely f@cked and ducks his head so not to witness his own demise. If you pause the video at :26 it literally looks like the most pathetic, ill-fated block attempt of all-time. Take a look at Gustavo Ayon in my screenshot; he looks mortified. Everything about this dunk is just so… awesome, and the fact that it’s Robin Lopez getting victimized just makes the whole thing that much more enjoyable.
Dunk rating on the Starbury Nastiness Scale:
8/10
