1/4/11: Ill Will Drops A Season High.

Wilson Chandler is gonna get PAID this summer.  He’s been great all season, averaging career numbers across the board, and tonight he had his biggest performance yet.  In a decisive 13-point victory over the league’s best team, Chandler knocked down 13 of his 19 shots on his way to a team-high 31 points along with nine boards.  Speaking of getting paid, how ’bout that Mass lottery?  It’s at $335 million right now.  They had a drawing last night… if I suddenly stop posting it probably means my mom won and I’m busy spending her riches on fitted hats.

Random Observations:

  • Highlight Recap: Everything I had planned to post here is either in the top 10 or not on Youtube.  Super-weak night for highlights, here’s something else to kill a few minutes of your time.  If that doesn’t entertain you, seek immediate medical attention.
  • No one even pretended to give a sh!t about defense in Madison Square Garden last night, and the result was one of the season’s finest run-and-gun spectacles.  I thought it was f@cking great, and I think everyone except Gregg Popovich felt the same way.  Pop made a statement by simultaniously pulling every single one of his starters with over three minutes left in the game.  His Spurs were probably going to lose, but the game certainly wasn’t over… I think the defecit was 11.  I figure Pop really wanted to make sure his point got across, and I imagine we’ll see a rabid Spurs squad in Boston tonight.  The Knicks ended up taking it 128-115.  Those 128 points are the most allowed by San Antonio in regulation during the Duncan era.  Amare Stoudemire and Raymond Felton added 28 points a piece to Chandler’s 31.  This is the seventh time this season the Knicks have scored 120+.  Not surprisingly, they’ve won all of those games.  This performance is extra impressive because they did it without Danilo Gallinari and his 15 PPG.
  • Tony Allen knocked OJ Mayo the f@ck out, took his minutes, and led the Grizzlies to a 110-105 victory over the Thunder.  Ok, maybe that’s not exactly how it went, but Allen really did hit Mayo.  So the DNP was due to bronchitis, OJ?  More like you picked a fight with the wrong teammate and got your ass whupped.  The beef was apparently over a couple Gs of debt owed by Mayo to Allen, debt which was ironically racked up in the same card game that caused Gilbert Arenas to bring his gun collection to the Verizon Center.  You can’t make this sh!t up.  Anyway, Allen started at shooting guard, played 32 minutes, and scored a season-high 19 points.  Z-Bo had a monster double-double (31/16), and Rudy Gay scored 27.  Both squads shot 51% and made 22 freethrows.  Memphis won this one on the glass… Randolph and company grabbed 12 offensive boards, nine more than the Thunder.
  • My main man DeShawn Stevenson is stepping up right now… seriously.  He followed up a 21-point night with 18 more in a three-point win over Portland.  One of his four triples gave Dallas a four-point lead in the final minute, which was great, but also thoroughly disappointing at the same time because he didn’t do the Tony Yayo “can’t feel my face” thing.  Wes Matthews answered DeShawn with a three-ball of his own, but Jason Terry came right back with a jumper (Terry tied Stevenson’s total with 18 points… five of Terry’s eight buckets came in the final period).  With the lead back to three, LaMarcus Aldridge was forced to fire a longball at the buzzer, which missed.  Aldridge did score 28 points and grab 10 boards.  Marcus Camby had a nice fantasy line: 10/20/4… he didn’t record any steals or blocks, though.
  • The other games: Venison was on the menu for the Miami Heat.  LBJ/Wade/Bosh dropped 78 of MIA’s 101 in a 12-point victory over the Bucks.  Milwaukee, as usual, struggled to put the ball in the basket.  The league’s 30th ranked scorers bricked 44 of 79 shot attempts.  DeMarcus Cousins had another nice outing (24/7), but Suckramento couldn’t withstand 60 points from Joe Johnson and Jamal Crawford and lost by six.  The Lakers got 21 points from Pau Gasol, which was 21 more than they needed to beat the Pistons.  108-83 was your final, T-Mac did 14/6/6 (turnovers).  Kobe scored 17 points, enough to move him ahead of Dominique Wilkins into the 10th spot on the all-time scoring list.  Lastly, the softest frontcourt in league history was torn apart by Omir Asik (13/7).  The Craptards likely gave up 70 or 80 points in the paint as they lost to the Bulls by 20.

Quote of the Day: Big Ben Wallace apparently expected his Pistons to beat the Lakers…

“I’m baffled.”

Come on Ben, the Lakers haven’t been playing that bad.
