12/28/10: Lakers Drop Third Straight.

My father’s 56th birthday was a happy one.  Thanks to the Spurs, the world’s biggest and most dedicated (this is a dude who watches the NBA daily and considers his favorite team “the other 29″) Laker/Kobe hater experienced a state of euphoria he can only feel when the purple and gold suffer a loss.  With every Kobe brick, turnover, and complaint, the grin on my old man’s face grew larger.  He’s now fast asleep having sweet dreams of the Mamba losing the ball on his way to the basket and pitching fitties at the officials.  Happy Birthday, dad!

Random Observations:

  • Highlight Recap: I’ve got nothing but the top 10 today, sorry.
  • Not only did the Lakers lose their third in a row, they got blown out by 15.  DeJuan Blair did 17/15 as Los Angeles went just 35.4% from the floor (Bryant: 8-27, Gasol: 3-8, Brown: 1-11) and turned the ball over 16 times… that’s pretty much the story right there.  This was a fun night for Kobe haters: Bean bricked 13 shots in a row, turned the ball over five times, and picked up a T in a little confrontation with George Hill.  The Lakers are now just 2-6 against .500 teams… time to STFU about the Spurs and their weak schedule.  The Lakers aren’t beating anybody either.
  • The Knicks got 30 points from Amare Stoudemire, but fell to 0-2 against the Heat so far this season.  Dwyane Wade got to the line 16 times and outscored Amare by 10 as his Heat picked up yet another victory.  New York had fallen into a 16-point hole by the end of the first quarter.  Miami was being led by Zydrunas Ilgauskas at the time… he dropped 12 in the first seven minutes, but scored just two more points the rest of the way.  The Knicks trailed by as many as 22 and were never really in the game even though they lost by just eight points.  CB and LBJ scored 18 each for the Heat.
  • The Raptors picked up a win in Dallas for the first time since the late ’90s.  The Mavs were missing Dirk Nowitzki, but the Raps played without Andrea Bargnani, Jose Calderon, and my main man Sonny Weems… and they’re the Craptors.  Even without Dirk, it was kind of an ugly way to have a five-game win streak snapped.  They went just 5-22 from three and 31-75 from the field, and gave up 17 points to rookie Ed Davis.  Toronto ended up taking it by eight, 84 to 76.  This was the first game thay’ve won all season without breaking 90 points.  Andrea sits out, Raps win the rebounding battle and allow just 76 points.  Probably not a coincidence.
  • Even Gilbert Arenas can put up efficient numbers against Cleveland!  Gilbo shot 8-15 on his way to 22 points… hold up… I’m just now noticing that he turned the ball over five times… ok, so much for efficient, let me rephrase that: even Gilbert Arenas can put up numbers against Cleveland!  Gilbo made it a double-double with 11 dimes as the Magic murked the Cavs 110-95.  Dwight Howard had more turnovers than rebounds in this game (seven to six).  The Magic coughed it up 20 times in the game, but obviously it didn’t matter because naturally Cleveland did the same damn thing 19 times while shooting like crap.
  • The other games: The Nuggets finally picked up a Melo-less win.  They did so by 18 over the Frail Blazers, who had to resort to playing Sean Marks for over 18 minutes in the absense of Marcus Camby.  I’d just like to take a moment here to acknowledge how things in the Northwest have changed.  Over the past couple seasons I never would’ve missed a Denver/Portland game… yet I only caught about five minutes of this thing.  Damn injuries. The Celtics got back on the winning track with a 12-point victory over the Pacers.  Danny Granger clanked 16 of 21 shot attempts, and the rest of his crew wasn’t much better… Indiana went 37% from the floor.  The Truth led the Cs with 21/5/7.  Carlos Boozer and Luol Deng scored 28 each as the Bulls beat the Deer by 13.

Quote of the Day: Byron Scott on the sorry state of the Cavaliers…

“They have a lot of firepower, there’s no doubt about that. We don’t have as much as they do. There’s no doubt about that, too.”

Photo of the Day: Kobe Bryant and George Hill have a little discussion…

Kobe: “MVP”

Hill: “Scoreboard”
