Weeks prior to the official start of a season in which Kobe Bryant figures to compete for another championship, many conversations regarding The Bean have been revolving around his eventual retirement. Recently, Bryant himself has publicly considered the matter, resulting in a firm statement that he could be playing out his final NBA contract as we speak.
As of now, Kobe’s got just two seasons left on that deal, and although retirement is always an idea that’s more easily discussed than accepted, he will enter into any future negotiations on the heels of an 18th NBA season. Even for the most well-conditioned freak of an athlete, all those years represent one hell of a grind.
Take all of this chatter for what you will, but it certainly seems that Kobe Bryant understands that time spares no man, and he talks as if he may not have much interest in prolonging his career beyond the years of dominance.
