POTD 5/9/12: Amare Stoudemire on Joel Anthony

The following bit of information may shock you: Amare Stoudemire finished with fewer dunks than Kris Humphries for the ’11/12 regular season.  Amare’s 83 slams (Hump had 92, in case you were wondering) were just good enough to put him in a four-way tie for 11th… nine positions down from the number two spot he occupied just two years ago.  That was the ’09/10 season, back when he threw down 187 times.  I’d never really stopped to consider it, but it’s actually gotten to the point where I’m a little surprised when Amare actually dunks on somebody.  He just hasn’t done it very frequently since becoming a Knick, and hardly at all this past season.

The fact that this may be the best dunk Amare’s had since the lockout… that’s kinda sad.  Not that it wasn’t a good dunk, it’s just that this used to be a routine play you’d see from Amare Stoudemire.  He was doing something like this every other game.  Speaking for both myself and Knicks fans worldwide, I hope to see him get back to that level.

Dunk rating on the Starbury Nastiness Scale:
