Monday Afternoon Links, Featuring The End Of Lamar Odom’s Season

Yahoo!: Lamar Odom’s season is over, but he’s not hurt.  Well, at least not physically.  Odom and the Mavericks have agreed to end their brief, Humphries-Kardashian-like marriage citing the best interests of both parties.  Basically, Odom is an emotional mess who has been unable to contribute and the Mavericks will stumble on without him.  Technically, Odom is still a member of the Mavs… he’ll just be listed as inactive for the remainder of his tenure.  While I feel for Lamar, a person who clearly has some personal issues, I’m disappointed by his lack of professionalism.  I mean, you can’t stop going to work because you’re sad.  It would be one thing if Odom was trying hard and playing bad, but that hasn’t been the case.

Pro Basketball Talk: Doug Collins is a grumpy old man coaching a team of sensitive young players.  This interesting dynamic was once thought to be working out well, but the good ol’ generation gap may be playing a role in Philly’s demise right now.  Basically, Doug thinks his players are a bunch of pansies, and his players probably view him as Red Forman.

Eight Points, Nine Seconds: Danny Granger is only scoring 18 points per game this season, but he thinks he’s on to something.  Never before had he experienced the luxury of being able to pick his spots, and he’s happy to be making the adjustment.

NOLA.com: Jarrett Jack will miss the remainder of the season with a foot injury.  No one really noticed, but Jack had an excellent run in ’11/12.  He averaged nearly 16 points per game on 45% from the floor, making him New Orleans’ most effective offensive weapon.  Jarrett wasn’t able to lead the Hornets to a whole lot of victories (and who the hell could?), but he did make them one of the more competitive cellar-dwelling squads (average margin: -4.8… that’s better than Sacramento, New Jersey, Cleveland, and a few other teams).

CSN Chicago: The key to Eddy Curry’s weight loss?  Getting him to stop drinking orange juice and Gatorade.  Also according to this article, Curry could do a back flip at 300 pounds.

GoErie.com: This article comes with a variety of quotes from and about the one and only Ivan Johnson, including the following: “After battling with the refs for so long, man, you just got to give in sometimes. I gave in. You got to give in. Treat the referees like a woman. Treat them with care.”  That’s Johnson talking, of course.

RealGM: Adam Morrison is a free agent!

The Basketball Jones: You’ve probably selected a playoff bandwagon, but how about a draft lottery bandwagon?  I think I’m rolling with the Cleveland Cavaliers.  Anthony Davis’s unibrow frightens me, but he looks like an awfully good basketball player, and I want to see talent around Kyrie Irving.

NBA.com: Not surprisingly, Lester Hudson has been signed to a second 10-day contract after dropping 26 on the Nets.  I didn’t realize he’d scored 23 in his previous game.  Lester’s rippin’ sh!t up.

NiuBball: Speaking of Lester Hudson, here’s a look at how other NBA players who took their talents to China this winter have fared since returning to the States.  Thanks to this article I’ve just learned that I spelled “Qingdao” wrong all CBA season long.  Woops.
