Games To Watch, Week 11 (3/5-3/11)

Monday, March 5th: Pacers @ Bulls, 8:00 ET, NBALP: A rematch of the most interesting first-round sweep (my bad, the 2011 series actually went five games) that I’ve ever witnessed, and a game that Derrick Rose has marked on his calendar.  You may recall that the Pacers celebrated too vigorously for Rose’s liking when they beat the Bulls back in January, causing the reigning MVP to say the following: “I’ll never forget how they celebrated just from winning this game. I can’t wait to play them again.”  Turns out he really hasn’t forgotten, stating just last night that he “hasn’t forgotten about anything.”  Should be a good one.  The Pacers are on a six-game winning streak, their longest in… I forget how many years, but I think it’s something like five or six.

Tuesday, March 6th: Knicks @ Mavericks, 8:30 ET, NBATV: Two of the more unpredictable teams in the league meet in Texas this time.  I thought the Mavs shot themselves in the foot in New York… hopefully they’ll keep that in mind and play smarter this time.

Wednesday, March 7th: Celtics @ Sixers, 7:00 ET, NBALP: The Atlantic’s new top dog against the Atlantic’s old top dog.  The Celtics, as old and tired a dog as they are, do remain within striking distance, though.  Maybe that, along with the throwback rivalry, will create an intense atmosphere.

Thursday, March 8th: Magic @ Bulls, 8:00 ET, TNT: There was a time when Jameer Nelson and Derrick Rose met and Jameer Nelson was the All-Star.  That time was 2009.  How quickly things change.

Friday, March 9th: Lakers @ T-Wolves, 8:00 ET, NBALP: This will be the third of four consecutive home games that Minnesota plays this week before hitting the road for seven straight.  Obviously, this game is part a key stretch for the young Timberwolves.  With the Nuggets and Rockets playing as well as they are, Minnesota will have to beat some good teams on their home floor to stay in the playoff hunt.

Saturday, March 10th: Pacers @ Heat, 7:30 ET, NBALP: Tough week for the Pacers… Bulls on Monday, Heat on Saturday.  Well, I guess they’re in third place, so they may as well play the Bulls and the Heat.  They don’t have much to prove to the rest of the East these days.

Sunday, March 11th: Celtics @ Lakers, 3:30 ET, ABC: Always an interesting match up.  Since they can’t really sell it as a possible Finals preview anymore, I’m curious to see what kind of storyline ABC will attempt to force down our throats.  Pierce to LA trade rumors, probably.
