The Starting Lineup: Javale McGee and DeAndre Jordan Aren’t The Same

Do people compare Javale McGee to DeAndre Jordan? I don’t, but Clippers’ commentators Ralph Lawler and Mike Smith inferred that this was the reason why Jordan felt the need to unleash the fury of hell on McGee and the Wizards.   DeAndre finished with 18 points and 11 rebounds in the 107-81 victory, and he accumulated those numbers in absolutely devastating fashion.  Watch as he catches this lob with two hands, but decides to hammer it with just one…

It’s always nice to have options.  Of course most people–even most NBA players–don’t have the ability to even think of trying  somethin’ like that.  Javale McGee does happen to be one of the few who could pull off such a dunk, and since he’s a young big man I suppose the two are comparable in that way.  McGee’s a string bean, though… f@cking DeAndre has a wide frame and legs like tree trunks.  To me, Jordan and McGee have nothing in common beyond being young, tall, and athletic.  I guess that does make them kind of similar, but I wouldn’t compare the two.  DJ has the potential to be an elite defensive player because he not only has the quickness, speed, and leaping ability to cover lots of space, but also the size and strength to individually guard a man like Andrew Bynum or Dwight Howard.  He’s not that guy yet because he hasn’t quite put it all together, but he could be.  Javale McGee doesn’t even have the tools.  He’s too skinny.  McGee went for 4 points and 4 boards in this one, by the way.

Kevin Love “stomping” on Luis Scola’s face is a non-story. A complete non-story.  Let’s take a look at the video…

Okay.  What I see here is a guy falling on the floor underneath the basket… twice… in less than 20 seconds of game time.  I’d argue that he wasn’t forced to the floor on either occasion… rather that he hit the deck by choice with hopes of drawing a few fouls.  He f@cking flopped, basically, as he always does.  So he got his f@cking face stepped on this time… boohoo.  That’s the risk you take when you decide to flop on the painted area of the floor.  Man up, stay upright, and you won’t catch a sneaker to the face (Bruce Bowen is retired).  I hope the NBA won’t reward the flopper by fining or suspending Love, but in this tissue-paper-soft world that we live in it wouldn’t surprise me if they do both.  At least the officials didn’t call any fouls.  I think Scola probably did get hacked on that take to the basket, but how is a ref even supposed to tell?  Whether a defender hit him or not he’s gonna act like he got shot.  The only way to solve this problem is to stop giving him calls.  I propose no foul calls whatsoever for Luis Scola for the remainder of the season!  See if he comes back flopping next year.

Knicks Win!!!!

Jeremy Lin probably saved Mike D’Pringles job by coming in off the bench and scoring 25 points to lead the Knicks to a  come-from-behind 99-92 victory over the Nets.  Wow… a hard-fought victory over the New Jersey Nets that required Jeremy Lin to contribute 25/5/7.  When you put it like that it’s not even a little bit impressive.

I watched the Jazz beat the Lakers 96-87. I have no groundbreaking thoughts.  Just another reminder of how the Lakers losing simply isn’t a big deal anymore.  I still haven’t quite gotten used to it, and neither has my father, the world’s biggest Laker hater.  He’s still requesting that I wake him from his sleep if the Lakers lose.  Oh, they did?  Oh good, good.  How’d Kobe shoot?

Box Score Observations: Evan Turner made his only three-point attempt as he dropped 11 in Philadelphia’s 98-87 W over Atlanta.  My dude Ivan Johnson had 14 and 13 in the loss.  It seems like the Magic play the Pacers every other day… anyway, Dwight had 27 and 8 as the Magic took this match up 85-81.  Anderson Varejao put up 17 and 17 in a Cavalier win over the Mavericks.  Dirk had 24/8 on 9-15.  Michael Redd started in Phoenix’s 95-89 win over the Bobcats.  He managed to score 17 points on 4-7 from three.  Nicolas Batum scored 33 points in 24 minutes to lead the Blazers past the Nuggets, who were playing their third game in three nights.  Tony Parker scored fourty-f@cking-two as the Spurs beat the Thunder by 11.
