Kevin Durant Is A Hater, But I’m Proud Of Him

Kevin Durant is the anti-Charles Barkley.  When asked a question about absolutely anything, the NBA’s cleanest-cut superstar can be counted on to come with one of those predictable, boring, cream-puff answers.  While fuddy-duddies will applaud, call it class, and gush over the young man’s character, I find it to be rather uninteresting.  I want to know how you really feel, Kevin!  About the only thing I know about you is that you f@cking love your Thunder teammates right to death.

That’s another thing that drives me nuts about this dude; ask him about leading the league in scoring?  Couldn’t have done that without my teammates, Craig. His chances of winning the MVP?  I’ll have to be better at getting my teammates involved, Ric. While I’m sure it’s greatly appreciated within the Thunder organization, that whole spiel has simply become annoying to me.

So anyway, when I heard that Durant had been asked for his thoughts on Blake Griffin’s mind-bogglingly-awesome dunk over Kendrick Perkins, I expected more of the same.  You know, some seemingly-scripted lesson in sportsmanship that would be perfect to show your kindergartener.  Shockingly, what I read was almost PG-13; something along the lines of that sucked, man. Yup, more typical K…wait, what?  I was completely caught off guard.  Of course the NBA’s darling didn’t use such colorful language, but I think you’ll agree that my summary accurately describes the surprising gist of the unforeseen haterism.  I’d even go as far as to say he was borderline disrespectful.  Dude must’ve been super-salty after the ass whoopin’.  Via InsideHoops.com…

Not everyone is so fired up about Blake Griffin’s dunk over Oklahoma City big man Kendrick Perkins on Monday.

The Clippers star went down the lane, elevated, made contact with Perkins and then threw the ball down into the basket, the fingers on his outstretched hand grazing the rim. The play has been the talk of the league.

“I have no appreciation for it at all,” said Perkins’ Thunder teammate Kevin Durant. “It was a layup, I think. He threw the ball in and got fouled and made his free throw, so it was three points at the end of the day, no matter how it happened, how it went in the basket. I really wasn’t impressed. He finished it. So what? We’ve moved on.”

Durant wasn’t surprised the play gained so much attention.

“I wasn’t surprised because Blake is a poster child,” Durant said. “He dunks the ball a lot and makes spectacular plays. If it wasn’t against us, maybe I’d say it was a good play, but it was against us, so it was a bad play. I have nothing against Blake, don’t get me wrong. But it was against us, so I’ve got to stick up for my teammate.”

My initial reaction to reading the above snippet: You weren’t impressed, Kevin?  In the words of the great Ed Lover, C’mon son! Oh, and you want to call it a layup?  Really? I’d like to hear you repeat that under oath because that sh!t would be straight up perjury.  What you ought to do, Kevin, is detach yourself from Perk’s hip and watch the video again.  Blake’s hand clearly makes contact with the rim.  HATER!!!!!!11

Then I realized something… yeah, KD’s a hater, but I’m a hypocrite (and a Blake Griffin stan)!  For the first time in his life Durant had just answered a question in a somewhat controversial manner, and that’s exactly what I’ve been looking for from the young man!  While the rest of the NBA lauded Griffin, Durant went against the grain.  Yeah, he was sticking up for his boy, but still… I sense just a tad bit of impoliteness.  I mean, “no appreciation at all?”  Well damn.

Please forgive me for briefly being upset with you, Kevin… I’m not mad at you at all.  As a matter of fact, I’m proud of you!  A few more comments like this and you’ll be ready to go get some ink that isn’t covered up by that jersey.
