Signings, Trades, And Rumors: Sunday, December 11th

Updating all day!  To read about what’s taken place over the past two days, click here and here.

Signings

Vince Carter, PHX, UFA: VC has officially signed with Dallas.  He may participate in their second practice later today.

Marc Gasol, MEM, RFA: The Rockets will sign Gasol to a four-year, $55 million offer sheet.  Memphis will retain him by matching.

Rip Hamilton, DET, UFA: Hamilton is headed to the Bulls.  Don’t really like it.  I think the Bulls need someone who is better at creating his own shot.

DeAndre Jordan, LAC, RFA: The Clippers will match the four years, $40 million that DeAndre has been offered by the Golden State Warriors.  Don’t let the door hit you on the way out, Kaveman.  In order to make room for the offer sheet, the Warriors amnestied Charlie Bell, who recently showed up drunk to a DUI hearing.  Good way to get amnestied.

Jeremy Lin, GSW, UFA: Lin, who was recently waived by the Warriors, has been picked up by the Houston Rockets.

Sasha Pavlovic, BOS, UFA: The Celtics will bring Pavlovic back on a one-year deal.

Kurt Thomas, CHI, UFA: The NBA’s oldest player has signed a two-year deal with the Blazers.  At age 39, I’m afraid of what the Blazer curse could do to Thomas.  Also, I’m surprised he signed for two years.  You don’t see many multi-year contracts for 39 year olds.  That being said, Kurt can still play.

David West, NOH, UFA: David Aldridge reports that the proposed sign and trade to send West to Boston is deadInstead, West will join the Pacers for two years at $20 million.  I like this a lot for the Pacers… they didn’t way overpay or commit for a long time.

Trades

Lamar Odom, LAL: Lamar Odom has been sent to Dallas for a trade exception, and Rick Carlisle is excited about his new lineup.  Why did the Lakers swap Odom for a trade exception?  Well, after the failed Chris Paul trade it was reported that Odom wanted out.  Now the Lakers can use this trade exception to land another good (maybe even great) player, just like Dallas did on the same day they got it from the Knicks.  From a Dallas perspective, they traded Chandler for Odom.  Can’t call that a bad deal.

Rumors

Gilbert Arenas, ORL, UFA: Gilbert was amnestied by Orlando, and has now cleared waivers and become an unrestricted free agent.

Kobe Bryant, LAL: Kobe isn’t a fan of the trade which sent Lamar Odom to Dallas for a trade exception.

Jamal Crawford, UFA, ATL: The Knicks are trying to put together a sign and trade to land ex-’bocker Jamal Crawford.

Baron Davis, CLE: Baron has missed three practices already due to back pain.  I think it’s safe to assume he came into camp out of shape.

Christian Eyenga, CLE: Christian Eyenga got taller this summer

Dwight Howard, ORL: The Lakers are reportedly playing some hardball, saying that they won’t trade both Gasol and Bynum for Howard.  I still think they would if that’s what it takes.  Dwight has revealed the reasoning behind his trade demand: he says Otis Smith never listened to his personnel suggestions.

OJ Mayo, MEM: The Grizzlies are in talks with the Pacers about a sign and trade that would send Mayo to Indiana for Josh McRoberts.  I don’t like it at all for the Grizzlies.  McRoberts is alright, but Mayo has to be worth more than him.

Chris Paul, NOH: With a trade to the Knicks or the Lakers looking highly unlikely, Chris Paul would like to be shipped to the Clippers.  The Hornets are reportedly asking for A LOT, but the Clippers may still make the deal if CP will commit to opting in for 2012/13.

Hasheem Thabeet, HOU: Less than 30 months ago, Hasheem Thabeet was the second-overall pick of the 2009 NBA Draft.  Today, he’s been waived under the amnesty provision by the Houston Rockets (I can’t find a link, but trust me on this one).  I don’t follow college basketball, but I saw Hasheem play maybe three or four times at UConn; knew he was going to be terrible.

John Wall, WAS: Wall says he’s changed his diet and has gotten in better shape than he was in last year.  Expect very big things from this young man.
