11/16/10: Melo Auditions For New York.

Carmelo Anthony is at the top of NY’s wish list, but he didn’t impress Clyde Frazier last night.  Clyde described Melo’s 4th quarter temer-tantrum–which included a technical foul for throwing his headband and a stupid frustration foul during an important jump ball–as “frivelous shenanigans”.  These “frivelous shenanigans” helped give NY life late in the game when it should’ve been all over.  Fortunately for the Nuggets, Raymond Felton dropped the ball out of bounds with 11 seconds left, costing the Knicks their potential game-tying possession.  Different roster, same Knickerbockers…

Random Observations:

  • Highlight Recap: NBA.com came through with a nice top 10…  lots of nice dunks and a few sick dishes in there.  Derrick Rose tooling on the RocketsDeMaR DeRoZaN throws it downLakers run a nice fast break
  • Back to the Nuggets/Knicks game for a minute.  Landry Fields had 21 points and 17 rebounds.  I imagine that’s the largest rebound total for a shooting guard in quite some time.  Wilson Chandler blocked five shots and dropped 23 off the bench.  Danilo Gallinari had 21/10.  Nice stats for a variety of Knicks, but they lost.  Melo had 26/9, and Al Harrington went for 22 off the bench against his former team.
  • Kobe Bryant and Brandon Jennings both dropped 31 points, but Bryant got more help as the Lakers beat the Bucks by 11.  Shannon Brown was huge off the bench for LA, scoring 21 points on 7-9 with four threes.  Brown is having a great season so far, his scoring is up by over 3 PPG and he’s shooting 52% from the floor.  Drew Gooden’s minutes have gone back up over the past two games, he had his second consecutive double-double.
  • Josh Smith had 25/8 and seven blocks as the Hawks beat the Pacers by 10.  Indiana, one of the league’s leaders in three-point makes per game, shot just 4-18 from long distance.  The Pacers are 1-5 on the season when they make fewer than 10 threes as a team.  They’re 3-0 when they make 10 or more.  Basically they live and die by the three, and last night they died.
  • The Z-Bo bowl turned out to be a pretty good game.  Randolph had 19/14 for the Grizzlies, but they lost by one to Portland.  Wes Matthews had a career-high 30 points and Andre Miller hit a turn-around jumper and three freethrows in the final 25 seconds to seal the deal for the Blazers.  This is a nice win for Portland as they were able to get it without Brandon Roy.  The Grizzlies have lost four in a row.
  • Derrick Rose tied a career-high with four made threes as he scored 33, leading the Bulls to a three-point victory over the Rockets.  Luis Scola scored 27 points but was only able to grab a season-low 5 boards.  After starting the season with four straight double-digit games on the glass he’s failed to get 10 or more boards in six consecutive games.
  • The other games: The Craptors lost to the John Wall-less Wizards by 15, but my main man Sonny Weems had 16 so it’s all good.  Lastly, Daniel Gibson had 18 off the bench as the Cavs beat the Sixers.  Philly has fallen to 2-9, the Cavs are back to .500 at 5-5.

Quote of the Day: Carmelo Anthony goes hard at Chris Bosh…

“I’m not Chris Bosh. We’re not the same person. What I do will be straight up. Management knows that.”

I don’t see why Melo felt the need to throw Bosh under the bus here…  he could’ve made the same point without doing that.

MC: “Is it always this empty in here?”
ZR: “Yeah…. except for when we play the Lakers.”
