The Best Plays You’ve Never Seen Before, Featuring Darius Miles

Good morning NBA fans, happy May 17th!  Since the 16th didn’t provide any games for me to write about, I will instead give to you the second installment of the best NBA highlights on Youtube with under 25,000 views.  There’s nothing super-old in this assortment, but that doesn’t make it any less spectacular, and it’s a nice throwback to what I like to call the NBA’s “hip-hop era.”  Let me warm up the time machine…

First up, I’ve got this sick facial dunk by a young Tracy McGrady–and by young Tracy McGrady I mean Raptors Tracy McGrady…

You know what’s really crazy about this dunk?  Notice how he drives into the paint at an angle nearly parallel to the backboard, then is somehow able to explode towards the basket from the dotted f@cking line and posterize a seven-footer.  I can’t honestly say that I had ever seen anything quite like that before.  T-Mac is basically driving across the court, then he just decides to jump 10 feet to the right and dunk on a guy.  That’s nuts.

Next up, how ’bout a little vintage Jason Williams?  Nope, he’s not crossing anyone up, and he isn’t making a pass, either…

That’s one of the better ball fake/finish combos that I’ve seen throughout my years of watching NBA games and browsing through highlights.  J-Will was ridiculous because he had so many moves… it’s not like he only had one that he used over and over… unlike Rondo with his fake behind the back thing (sorry, can’t pass up an opportunity to bash Rondo).

And now, for the featured play–well, it’s actually two plays–Darius Miles tooling on the Pacers with a pretty nice windwill followed by a ridiculous crossover complete with an and-one finish…

6’9 with that kind of talent and athleticism?  It’s a damn shame that he could never pull it together… we should’ve been blessed with so many more of these plays.

Fourthly, I know this only happened last season, but how the hell has it been viewed just 300-something times?

That’s a stone-cold denial at the summit on a guy who’s dunking history has earned him a StroShow Award.  G-Wall never gets the appreciation that he deserves.

Lastly, one of my favorite highlights…

I think Donny Marshall’s rhetorical question pretty much says it all.  You don’t defend that.  There’s no f@ckin’ way.  That’s got to be one of the most difficult shots ever to be put through a hoop.  He was on his way down, he was under the backboard, and he had to spin it off the glass with one hand.  The shot is so crazy that it almost makes you forget about the AND1-Mixtape-like spin move/crossover that he had to put on Paul Pierce just to get into the paint.  Ridiculous play.
