Monta Ellis: Latest NBA Player Turned Rapper

Man, it seems like half the league is rapping–or at least attempting to do so–these days.  Just this season I’ve posted tracks by Marquis Daniels and Lou Williams, and now we have Mississippi native Monta Ellis testing his prowess on the mic.  His verse begins at about 3:15… you may want to start there and then go back to Bun B’s verse later (that’s correct, H-Town legend Bun B is on a song with Monta Ellis), because he sounds a whole lot whacker after a minute of Bun, obviously.

Eh… don’t quit your day job, Moped.  Above average for an NBA rap song, but certainly below average for a rap song with Bun B on it.  I think Monta could’ve helped his cause by rapping about something other than basketball.  I love basketball, and I love rap, and I’ve always felt like the two go hand-in-hand… but for whatever reason, rap songs about basketball just don’t seem to work.  Maybe it’s because they bring back cringe-inducing memories of Aaron Carter and Lil’ Bow Wow, or maybe it’s because they usually seem to be made by some assclown who doesn’t sound as if he knows much about the sport.  Wait a minute, how the hell does that Bow Wow song have 11 million views?  I just searched “Wu-Tang Clan” and sorted the results by view count… and the top video had about half that number.  What a scary world we live in.

Movin’ on a #%&@! with the speed of a centipede, and injure–ANY MOTHAF@CKIN’ CONTENDER!

That didn’t really have anything to do with anything… it’s just one of my favorite songs.
