1/27/11: Knicks Finally Beat Heat

For the first time since October of 2008 the Knicks took the court with the Heat and came away victorious. Kinda funny that the W would end up coming in a game where they shot 36 percent from the floor and bricked 23 three-pointers, no? Read on to find out who was responsible for Miami’s loss in a game that they probably should’ve won. The answer may surprise you.  As I did yesterday, I’m going to keep this relatively simple because I still feel like crap.

Random Observations:

  • Highlight Recap: Forget the actual basketball clips, the highlight of the night was clearly this:

  • Can you say that on live TV before midnight?  Anyway, here’s your top five plays
  • The Knicks made just 30 of 83 shots and 10 of 33 triples, so how the hell did they beat the Heat?  I’m sorry, LeBron, but this one’s on you.  Let’s flash back to last week real quick: Chris Bosh went down with an ankle injury, but don’t worry!  The King would simply “dust off” his “post game” to keep the ship afloat until his buddy was ready to roll again.  Back to last night: LeBron hit the block… and damn, he FAILed HARD.  With his back to the basket he looked about as comfortable as Chuck Hayes at the freethrow line.  I think everyone except LeBron expected this, because everyone except LeBron knows damn well that LeBron has no post game whatsoever.  Still, even after last night’s 7-24, four-turnover disaster… he won’t admit it.  Shocking: “I had some great looks, I just missed them. Had nothing to do with me being down in the low post.”  Bullsh!t.  You were clueless down there.  You held the ball and forced awkward looking shots, causing the rest of your teammates to stand around watching you, resulting in a loss.  Dwyane Wade, on the other hand, was on fire… until the fourth quarter rolled around.  Wade had made 14 consecutive shots at one point in the third period, but went 0-7 in the fourth.  Amare Stoudemire led the Knicks with 24 points on 10-17.  Oddly enough, he was the only Knick who didn’t struggle from downtown.  Amare was a perfect 1-1.
  • What in the world has gotten into Tyson Chandler?  The offensively-challenged center is scoring points… about 20 per game over his last three. I didn’t see the game, but looking at the play-by-play, I’m only finding one dunk?  That can’t be right… and it says he hit a 17-foot jumper?  What in the hell?  Well, however he got ‘em, his 21 led the Mavs in a 111-106 victory over the Rockets.  Speaking of players scoring weird amounts of points, Chuck Hayes had 16 in this one on 8-10.  Luis Scola and Kevin Martin combined for 57, but who cares… the Chuckwagon dropped 16!  The last time he scored that many?  In November, against the Warriors, of course.
  • LaMarcus Aldridge did 17 points and 16 boards against KG and the Celtics, but his Blazers shot under 37 percent and lost 88-78 at home.  The Cs turned the ball over 21 times and were abused on the offensive glass, but if you can’t put the ball in the basket nothing else matters much.  Kendrick Perkins’ recovery seems to be coming along pretty well.  Kendrick played 20 minutes, scoring 10 points and grabbing nine boards.  Paul Pierce left late with a bruised right thigh.  It’s not serious, and he’s a game-time decision for tonight’s game in Phoenix.

Quote of the Day: From the AP’s Heat @ Knicks game recap…

“James’ preference has always been to play facing the basket, and his struggles from close range were similar to a golfer who can drive it a mile but misses on the greens. James missed 14 of 18 shots through three quarters, ruining Miami’s chance to build a big lead while New York was struggling to get anything besides Stoudemire.”

Yup, that’s pretty much how it went down.  I consider LeBron the best player in the league, so you know I’m not hating… but he really did cost Miami the game last night.  His shot selection was attrocious, and the way he was ball stopping made me cringe.

Photo of the Day: They say a pictures worth a thousand words.  I’m not sure how many words about LeBron James were in today’s post, but this photo is worth all of ‘em…
