Fantasy Studs & Duds Week 13

All rankings based on 9 categories (pts/reb/ast/stl/blk/3/fg%/ft%/to) and head-to-head format.

STUDS

Point Guards

  • Stephen Curry, GSW, 4 games: Steph was the second best player in fantasy basketball with an all-around efficient line.  He averaged 22.5/4/6 with two threes and just under two steals on 50 percent from the floor and 95 percent from the stripe.
  • DJ Augustin, CHA, 4 games: I recently swapped Ason Kidd (guy has no J) for DJ and Barbosa, and I haven’t been disappointed so far.  Augustin did 19/3/7 with a steal and 1.5 threes for four games last week.  I’ll take that over J-Kidd’s brick-laying ass all day long.  DJ shot 46 percent from the floor!  That’s like twice what Kidd shoots.
  • Earl Boykins, MIL, 4 games: How ’bout 14 PPG and 2 SPG from the littlest guy in the league?  Believe it or not, Boykins is a decent source of points and threes that can likely be added off the free agent list in a 14-team league.  He knocked down over a triple a game last week, and threw in 4.3 assists with less than one turnover.

Shooting Guards

  • Rudy Fernandez, POR, 4 games: I’m not sure how this is the third best line from last week, but accoring to Yahoo!’s rankings, it is: 13.5/3.8/4.5/3 STL/2.3 3s on 47.5/78 %s.  Don’t get me wrong, that’s great production, but third overall?  Nah.  Definitely studly, though.
  • Eric Gordon, LAC, 4 games: EG gave you points and threes… and lots of ‘em.  Precisely 26 PPG along with 3.5 triples for four games.  That’ll help you win a couple cats.  He contributed nicely in the assists column with 4.3 a game, too.  Oh yeah, he made 95 percent of his FTs.
  • Nicolas Batum, POR, 4 games: I know, I know, he’s an SF… but he’s eligible, and I had to get him in here somewhere.  Why?  Check out the stat-sheet-stuffing digits: 15.5/6.3/2.3/2.3 3s/1 STL/1 BLK on 45% FG and 90% FT with two TOs all week.  Unless your team shot better than 45 percent from the floor or 90 percent from the line, he significantly contributed in all nine categories.

Small Forwards

  • Danny Granger, IND, 4 games: Danny bopped 2.3 triples a night on his way to 24 PPG.  He also gave you 5.5 boards, 3.5 assists, 1.3 steals, and excellent percentages from the field and the line.  He threw up an eight-point stinker on Sunday, but he also had a pair of 32-pointers.
  • Carmelo Anthony, DEN, 3 games: The Melo Man knocked down a career-high six triples on Sunday night.  His hot hand helped him skyrocket all the way to the top of the week 13 rankings.  Anthony ended up averaging 31/7/2 with two threes, 1.7 swipes, and not a single turnover.
  • Grant Hill, PHX, 4 games: This guy is almost 4o and he’s out there doing 18/6 with a steal and a block.  Un-freakin’-believable.  Every time I see him run the floor it makes me feel better about the inevitable aging process.

Power Forwards

  • Boris Diaw, CHA, 4 games: It kills me to include this schlub, but you can’t deny these all-around numbers: 14.5 points, 6.3 boards, 5.5 dimes, 1.3 threes, 1.3 steals, and a block.  The sad thing is that he should be doing this every week, but he refuses to assert himself consistently and just plain frustrates the hell out of me, you, and everyone else who follows the sport of basketball.
  • Ryan Anderson, ORL, 4 games: Ryan continues to kill it.  If your league is full of slackers, check to see if he’s still available.  If he is, click that add button.  He dropped 3.5 triples a night as he scored 17.3 PPG in week 13.  He also gave you 28 boards on the week, which is a nice boost.
  • Blake Griffin, LAC, 4 games: First of all, he shot 72 percent from the line on almost 12 attempts per game.  If he’s on your team and you actually care about the FT% category, that’ll put a big smile on your face.  If you’re like me and you tank FT, you’ve got a stupid ass grin on your face too… 31.5/14.5/5.3 on 57.7 percent from the floor will certainly please even the grumpiest of owners.

Centers

  • Tyson Chandler, DAL, 3 games: Tyson did his double-double thing with 12 points and 10 boards while also giving you 1.7s in the steals and blocks departments.  He somehow managed to connect on 90 percent of his freethrows… on 3.3 attempts a game.  Weird, but you’ll take it!
  • Andray Blatche, WAS, 4 games: ‘Dray’s 17/7 was pretty routine, but throw in 3.3 dishes, 2.3 steals, and 1.5 blocks and you’ve got a really nice line.  His 49 percent from the floor wasn’t great, but probably didn’t hurt you.  Three TOs per is a tad steep, but you can live with it.
  • Chuck Hayes, HOU, 4 games: The Chuck Wagon is back and he’s doin’ his thang.  If you’re not familiar with Chuck Hayes, his thang is a steal and a block and a half with eight boards and four assists per game.  He won’t score much, but he’ll get you those random numbers.  Do be aware that he could very well pick up a turnover at the freethrow line.

DUDS

Point Guards

  • Chris Paul, NOH, 4 games: New Orleans’ grind-it-out style has resulted in these types of numbers for Paul: 13/4/9.  It’s not terrible, but it’s just… disappointing.  This guy was a top five pick in everyone’s league.  You want more than some mid-rounds-type numbers along with good threes and steals from your top draft choice, which could’ve been almost anyone else instead.
  • Jason Kidd, DAL, 4 games: Kidd actually had a pretty good week for 2011 Kidd… but it still wasn’t a good week.  Eight points and eight dimes on 37 percent with a few threes… I’m not missing that.
  • Aaron Brooks, HOU, 4 games: Brooks hasn’t been himself since returning from injury a few weeks ago.  He’s had a couple good games, but the majority of his nine outings have been quiet.  He averaged just 20 MPG last week, which didn’t allow him to do much.  You got just 7.5 PPG on 23% FG out of the guy.

Shooting Guards

  • Manu Ginobili, SAS, 3 games: Six assists is nice, and 14 PPG would be acceptable if it didn’t come on 28 percent shooting.  He did make all 20 of his freethrows, which is excellent, but overall it was a pretty lackluster week for Manu.
  • Stephen Jackson, CHA, 4 games: Stack was firing blanks.  He went just 29 percent from the floor and 64 percent from the stripe as he bricked his way to disappointing 12.8 PPG.  He gave you less than a steal, no blocks, and gave the other guy a three turnover cushion every time he played.
  • Gilbert Arenas, ORL, 4 games: Stan Van Gundy has spoken out about Gilbo’s problems in Orlando.  Apparently he and The Agent don’t see eye to eye, and Stan admits to being tough on his PGs.  If Arenas can’t get used to it, expect more 5/2/4 type lines.  Why anyone would put this clown on their team nowadays… I have no idea.  It never ends well for one reason or another.  Don’t touch the guy with a 10 foot pole, you’ll be glad you didn’t in the end.

Small Forwards

  • Gerald Wallace, CHA, 4 games: Captain Jack wasn’t the only kitten that crapped the bed.  G-Force did 9/8 on 35% FG with little else to speak of.  Look at the bright side, at least he didn’t hurt himself.
  • JR Smith, DEN, 3 games: JR wasn’t in the doghouse, but he wasn’t sitting on the couch in the living room, either.  Smith got just 21 minutes and seven shots a night.  For a dude who’s purpose is to put the ball in the basket, that’s not gonna get it done.  He shot poorly and didn’t make a single three all week.
  • Wilson Chandler, NYK, 4 games: Will didn’t live up to his “thrill” monicker.  He got his blocks (1.5), but couldn’t fall out of a boat and hit water.  He made fewer than 5 of his 13 shots per game, which resulted in a dudly 11 PPG with under a three a game.

Power Forwards

  • Jeff Green, OKC, 3 games: Jeff simply did a whole lot of nothing.  He played 30 MPG… that’s enough.  He took 11 shots a night… he just couldn’t hit ‘em (32%).  He gave you a block and a steal, nut nothing else.
  • Paul Millsap, UTA, 4 games: Millsap’s numbers have been dropping for quite a while, but 12/7 is extra-lame, even now… especially when it comes with 57% FT brickery.
  • Shawn Marion, DAL, 4 games: No threes, under a steal, under a block, under 10 PPG.  Never shoulda left Phoenix, dude.

Centers

  • Roy Hibbert, IND, 3 games: Big Hibbs is officially M.I.A.  His minutes have dried up (21), and so have his numbers (under a block, 40% FG).  I suppose you can’t count on him until Jim O’Brien’s Jeff Foster lovin’ ass is sh!t canned.
  • Andrew Bogut, MIL, 4 games: He went 10 percent from the line.  T-E-N.  Ten percent.  It was only on 10 attempts, but it’s still pretty funny.  Thirteen points and 8.5 boards with 1.8 swats isn’t anything to get excited about, so I’m gonna make him a dud.
  • Andris Biedrins, GSW, 4 games: Remember when this dude was good?  Yeah, me too.  Now he’s doing this 7/6 type sh!t.  Glad I stayed the hell away from him.
