1/23/11: Nuggets Crush Pacers 121-107

I’m not going to do the usual post with the highlight recap and the bulleted list and all that… with only one game to talk about it doesn’t really make any sense.  I will give you an alternative to the AP’s game recap, though.  F@ck football, let’s talk NBA!

Carmelo Anthony knocked down a career-high six three pointers on his way to 36 points as the Nuggets ran the Pacers off the floor in Denver.  Denver outscored Indiana 16 to 7 on the break and 44 to 22 in the paint, and it could’ve been worse.  I felt that Carmelo Anthony was hacked on his way to the basket multiple times but didn’t get calls that a player of his caliber would normally receive.  Melo shot just five freethrows in the game… I felt he should’ve taken at least nine… and he clanked three of the ones they actually gave him.  The fact that he managed to finish the game at 14-27 from the floor is pretty impressive when you consider his 0-6 start and the lack of whistles.  His six for eight long-range shooting was so impressive that it gave Nuggets fans amnesia.  For those of you who have been living under a rock since last summer, Melo’s refused to sign a contract extension with the Nuggets, resulting in some boos from fans.  It was all cheers tonight, though, as he made it rain from downtown.

Four other Nuggets also scored in double figures.  Al Harrington dropped 16 off the bench, Nene scored 15, Ty Lawson added 13 more bench points, and Chauncey Billups notched 12.  Denver shot 51 percent from the field and 55 percent from distance.  Indiana outshot them from the stripe, but it made no difference.

The Pacers were led by Tyler Hansbrough, who put up 27 points and 10 boards in just 30 minutes of action.  Rookie Paul George went 7-10 off the bench for 17 points, but other than he and Psycho T no one really did sh!t for the Pacemakers, who have lost five in a row.  Danny Granger and Darren Collison both went 2-10 and only managed 13 combined points.  They better get their act together if they plan to compete with the Magic on Wednesday.  As for the Nuggs, they’re about to leave the Rockies for a five game road trip.

I’ll add the highlights as soon as someone Youtubes them.  I just noticed that I linked you to the wrong highlights.  It was Denver/Indiana, but from like a month ago.  My bad.  Here’s the correct video:

…and that’s why you watch the video before you click submit.  Lesson learned.
